Trickle Charger Help

Burning Brakes
Check this Jay Leno piece. A bit "informational", but a great product.
The unit should likely be used all the time, or as much as possible, as explained in the video.

As some pointed out "Most any trickle charger will work", but the CTEK, IMHO, does it better. It has a mode to "recondition" the battery, by depleting the charge and then ramping it back up, preventing "stratification" of the acid solution. At least I think that's how it works, I ain't a BSEE...
And yes, it works just fine via the cigarette lighter port. If you want to go the "belt and suspenders" route, then do the lighter port modification shown here:

The CTEK 7002 can also be used for a deep cycle marine battery to power your sump pump's back-up battery as a power source and left attached. Just figured this out the other day when we lost power and I had to use the 993 battery to save the basement when the Watchdog battery ran out. The 993 battery bought enough pump time so I could go get a marine battery.

I'm glad this thread popped up again.
My wife recently noticed (I'm working 1800mi away from the car at the moment) that the Ctek 7000 indicator was in the "first" position indicating that the battery was <10v. She also told me that the Ctek unit was "super hot" to the touch and the indicator cord was flashing orange.
Note: Yes, the Ctek is in "snowflake" mode for a gel battery.
Any thoughts or am I facing yet another replacement of an Optima Red-top when I get home?

I would say the first thing is to unplug the CTEK.
If you are tired of the Optimas, Costco now has Interstate, correct fitment for your 993, free warranty replacement during the first 42 months, pro rata after that.

Thank you BobbyT and NoRush !
BobbyT - can I just walk into a Costco and buy the battery? You are talking about the AGM version - correct? Out in AZ I do NOT want to deal with the venting/ build up/ drying out of the lead cell type.
Do you happen to have the exact Interstate model number/ Costco number? I'm 2 hrs away from my nearest Costco.
Thank you for your advice! I'm really sick of these super expensive Optima Red-tops dying on me!
When I get back to the garage I'll contact Ctek and see what they suggest - I know others have had good service after the sale from them.
