Group Buy: Nussbaum Sprinter Lift
My purpose in doing this post is to see if anyone besides me wants to buy one of these lifts. It's not my intention to compare other lifts of this type to the Sprinter or to compare it to two post lifts or any other type of lift. For those of us with limited height in our garage this is a good option.
1-Sits only 3.85" above floor.
2-Full access to work under the car, no crossmembers.
3-Overall width, 72"; not to large
4-Does not need to be anchored to the floor.
5-Lifting height of 39" which is more than enough space to drop an engine
6-Comes with a mobility kit, ie casters so it can be moved outside and used
7-High quality made in Germany.
Price is $2500 plus shipping, includes mobility kit.www.nussbaum-lifts.de/lifts/sprinter.html Click on English at the top right if necessary.

Robin,
There are many lifts out there that will elevate all four wheels. I believe the Nussbaum Sprinter is the most expensive mid rise scissors lift available, most dealers sell it for well over $3000. Only you can decide whether it is a good value and appropriate for your needs after you compare it with the others on the market. My conclusion is that it is a good value; of course others may disagree.

Hi Folks,
I've done some research on lifts and here's what I found: The Nussbaum lifts what Ron is referring to is somewhat similar to Bend-Pak lifts and I think they're half the price. Here is http://bendpak.com and http://www.alphaomegaeq.com sites, alpha-Omega is one of the distributor of Bend-Pak products. Here are some of he lifts I have priced: Model LR-60P (portable) lift height is 26". LR-60 is a non portable, $1,200.00 and $1,050.00 respectively. Model MD-64, mid height, did not get the price. However, Harborfreight carries one similar to this for just $899.00. No affiliation with any of these product.... Hope this will help.

Here goes
Searched the archives for my old post: bend pak LR60
http://www.asedeals.com/low_rise_lifts.html
Best deal I found, but once you add shipping to a house (free shipping tends to be to a busines) etc, it's closer to $1500. Still the best money I spent on a porsche, ever !
Works on all of them ;-) (almost actually, it's not so good for 911s before they had 4 jack points.., you need extra arms for these)

Greg,
That lift you have looks like it has a crossmember between the two support members the car's frame sits on.
If it does how can you remove the engine and gearbox as a unit? Also does the hydraulic cylinder get in the way of dropping the engine and gearbox?

So you've had the engine and gearbox out as unit and there were no problems as far as clearances as to the cross member? And your lift got your car high enough too so there were no problems with clearance when dropping and refitting?
I want to be sure that the lift I get can be used to remove and reinstall the engine and gearbox as a unit or I want to be able to return it with no cost to me.
thanks, ron

I cannot answer that question with any kind of guarantee - I don't sell'em ;-) Returning a lift would not be a fun proposition anyway !
The cross member is located in the middle of the lift, out of the way (see 356 picture). What's in the way is the piston pushing the lift up, and that problem can be solved by parking backwards ;-)
From the way it looks in my garage, seems to me removing the engine should be fairly simple, assuming it raises the car enough (but if I recall those specs are identical to the other lift mentioned here) since the lift pads stop before the wheels, inside the wheelbase, so the *** of the car is free of anything under it. I should think the tranny should be feasible as well. Now Tranny+engine together ? no idea, I am not a mechanic so I can't say if that means doing things differently, never did it.
Look at both my pictures (the 993 especially) and imagine the car parked backwards. You should see you have a free space from before the rear wheel all the way to the rear bumper without cross members. Can't say anymore than that, but contact bend-pack and double check with them if you are worried about that ! I doubt they'd build their best seller lift in a manner that it's useless to drop an engine ! Hope this helps ! If you want I can take picts of the lift "empty" tonight !

can lifts like this be used with a body on frame vehicle, with very inboard lifting points, or do you need peripheral points like on the unibodies as pictured? do those white lifting blocks come with the lift?
