Post Best place (dealer) for bodywork in the Washington D.C. area?

My friend has a 1997 993 coupe.

Great car. Unfortunately, someone bashed the rear bumper. There's about a 3" gash in the bumper and it is now noticeably uneven.

He just moved to Washington D.C. and wants to get the damage repaired. But he does not know the area very well. Anyone in the D.C. area have any suggestions?

He said he would prefer to use a Porsche dealer for the repair.

Wagon Works in Alexandria is a few hundred yards down Rt. 1 from Porsche of Arlington. They are super, super expensive and take a long time. But their work is top notch. The best body and rest. guy in the area is Lewis Hauser at Karossorie in Merrifield.

When I wrecked my 993, Wagon Works was my first call. They weren't very interested in taking on the job but recommended First Choice. First Choice is run by a former WW employee, WW owner speaks highly of his work. First Choice wasn't able to repaid the damage (needed a unique kind of frame machine due to the damage), but he went 110% with my insurance company and found a shop with the right equipment. Refused any payment since he couldn't complete the job.

I think that the WW recommendation speaks to his quality and his efforts speak to his integrity.

I also endorse Wagon Works and First Choice. Both are widely regarded as the best in the area. Non-insurance work will end up way down their list of priorities, but when they get to it they will do a first-rate job. I'd recommend the place that recently repaired the nose of my 993TT, but the fact that they were befuddled by the mounting of the Aerokit spoiler lip and the specialized German glue necessary to achieve an ultra tight adhesion caused me to lose a little confidence in them.

Also, if your buddy's new to the area, point him to the thread on the June 29 DC/MD/NoVa Rennlist gathering in the area. We'd be happy to welcome him.

When I am in to see Ivan @ IMA, I pop my head in across the lot at Karosserie. Nice work.

The dealers that have the best reps (IMO) are Porsche of Arlington (formerly Heishman) and Porsche Audi Rockville. HBL? No, thank you.

Thank you all for the great replies. And yes John, I will mention the upcoming Rennlist gathering! My friend will be the guy with the recently repaired black 993! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

It sounds like he is going with Wagon Works.
