Default Got my car back from the body shop...

I have been driving my dad's 996 for 3 weeks and I got my car back about 5 days ago. The first thing when I hopped in was that 993 smell! OHhh sooo good. Cranked her up... VROOM supercups! I got RS front splitters, bumperettes removed with clear signals, and got my rear bumperettes painted. I was sooo happy, but the paint looked like crap with tons of swirl marks from me, water spots galore, and several marks from the body shop. So, I bought a PC 7424 and 3M Finesse-It and 3M Swirl Mark remover. I spent about 7 hours washing, claying, finessing-it (dulls the finish), SMR (shines the finish so beautiful), and the Zainoed it. The results were nothing short of amazing--I still can't believe how beautiful the paint looks. So, fast forward to today, I walk out to the parking lot admiring my paint on the passenger side, walk around to the drivers side and--SOMEBODY KEYED MY CAR. There is a 2 foot gash along the driver's side door. There aren't any cameras in the parking lot, so I am screwed. The body shop says they can blend it just around the area; would this turn out OK? I would DEFINITELY want to do that since it would be much cheaper. There is no reason to worry about insurance because I have a $500 deductible. I will take some pictures of the car soon; it looks amazing besides the key marks. It is unfathomable to me why someone would want to do that. If for a freak reason I find out who it was, they better run.

your post was getting better and better up until the point you mentioned the keying part. How sad. I know how you feel.

Back in 1989, I was 21 and bought my first new car, actually a 89 S-10 p/u. I couldnt afford the a/c option, but made sure I got the powerful 4.3L V-6. Anyhow, washed it about every other day, admiring the fact that I have never owned a brand-new car before. The first week I had it, some loser keyed the drivers side door while parked at a movie theater. I was crushed to say the least.

I am so sorry about your car. I hate such scumbags and I no longer risk leaving my car unattended. I take it out for a drive and it goes straight back into the garage - too many losers out there who think it is funny to do this kind of thing. Seen a few Mercs & Porsches around with key marks....

Know the feeling. When I had first purchased my 993, some artist thought it would look better with a 1 1/2 foot "W" on the LHS rear wheel arch. I actually left the car like that for quite a few months before finally respraying the whole car. Touch wood, no one has felt compelled to sample the thickness of my paint since then.

I whipped out the PC and buffed the crap out of the paint... it looks better. From a few feet away, there are 3 sections about 3-4" each that are very narrow down to the primer. I will probably leave the car like this for the next year or so until I can park in a safer place so if it happens again I still only have to pay the deductible and say it happened all at once. Graham, on another note, I haven't heard from you lately on whether you still want to buy the mufflers. Email me and let me know. -Mark

Red, I know how you feel getting your car keyed by that loser. I am a Red Sox fan.

I was rooting for the Red Sox too, although my login name is a reference to my hair. I bet you can't guess what color it is...?

Red,

I know how you feel, I had my Midnight Blue Met car keyed. The vandal mangaed to hit every panel except the driver's door and left front. Car goes to the shop on Wednesday for a full body repaint. Wish I could catch the SOB(s) who did it.

I'm sorry to hear about your car. The driver's door of my pristine original Arctic Silver C2S got accidentally scratched 3 places, while being worked on by a paintless dent remover The shop tried to fade it in, as it was on the middle of the door, but screwed up the paint job by creating orange peel at the front and back edge of the door! So, the door needed re-painting, this time fading in onto front and rear fender (this time done at the authorized Porsche dealer). This worked beautifully, except showing a shade different in clear-coat - they are now offering to redo the job for free, and I'll let them, and it remains to be seen if they get it to match perfectly.

Kolbjorn.

Wow Todd, that is horrible. Luckily they only got one panel on my car, and I *may* have a lead on who did it. It will probably turn out there was a group of people and they won't be able to prove which of them did it so I will just have to pay for it sometime or another.

Wow, So sorry to hear about theat, Red. I really wonder if there is a "scumbucket" gene present in people which explains such outrageous behavior. To say "jealosy" doesn't even begin to describe how morally vacuous these types of people are. The other day, I pulled up to a curb parking spot in front a cluster of restaurants where you can park for up to 10 minutes while you pickup a to-go order. I return to my car and someone with the aforementioned gene had spat, in numerous places, on the front of hood. Trivial compared to your misfortune, but would have certainly been worse had I been parked in a remote area. What can you do? Take solace in the fact that your life is so good that you don't have to deride others in order to feel good about yourself!

Edward
