Default Please help ! C2S tempreture sensor

I have a '98 C2S. After damage repair of the front bumper, the body shop
couldn't find what were originally mounted on the metal bracket which
is attached to the bumper reinforcement at left front. The bracket has
two holes on it. I believe it is called 'support'. After connecting all
the wires to left fog light, turnning light, there are 2 sets of wires
which the body shop didn't know what to do with. The 2 sets of wires
looked very similar with the same type of connectors. Both wires looked
like either brown with green strip or green with brown strip. I know one
set of wires connects to an 'outer sensor' (928 641 142 00). What does the other set of wires connect to ?

I have checked (see through the grill from the front left) two other cars.
The '96 Carrera has only one sensor mounted. The '97 Turbo does have 2
(looked alike) sensors. I have checked with dealers and all of them could
find only one sensor in the parts illustration even with Turbo model.

My questions are :
With '98 C2S, should there be 2 sensors ? Are they the same ?
If they are the same, why does the car need 2 sensors ?

If they are different, besides the outer sensor, what is the other one ?
What is the part number ? Which set of wires goes to which sensor ?

I really appreciate if someone can answer these questions. Thanks very
much for your help in advance.

TTH,

To answer your questions:

1. There should only be two sensors if you have the on board computer option (OBC).
2. The same part goes in both locations.
3. The car uses one sensor for the climate control unit and one for the on board computer option.
4. N/A, they are not different.
5. 928 641 142 00
6. The OBC sensor wire colors are blue/green and brown/green. See the On Board Computer retrofit DIY at http://p-car.com/diy/obc/ for more info & pics.

PS: The Turbos came standard with OBC option and that's why they have 2 sensors.

Keith,

Thanks for the response.
I don't have OBC so I guess this set of wires is not for that.
I start wondering maybe it's something else inside the bumper that the body shop forgot to connect. For the next step, I will remove the bumper cover to check it over. Hope I will find something underneath which didn't get connected.
Thanks again.

TTH,

I think you misunderstood a bit. The wiring is there even if you don’t have OBC. If you have OBC the temp. sensor will be installed. If not, then the wire will be hanging free or wrapped around your turn signal light.

Keith,

Now I get it. This is very helpful information. Now I just need to look closer to distinquish between the wires by their colors.
Just wonder why none of the dealers were able to clarify this for me.
Thanks for saving me a lot of trouble.
