Default Porsche use as intended

This is a great forum but I think some owners are missing a huge part of Porsche ownership. Drop the windshield squeek, waxing advise & exhaust perfect tone... enjoy the car to its fullist! Here is my garage queen turned way fun race car. Not always a winner but always a $100,000. worth of fun.

Yo enjoy your car your way, let others enjoy their cars their way. Just because you want to satisy your inflated ego and pretend you're boy-racer doesn't mean that's the only way to enjoy a 993.

When you're paying the bills for other's people cars, then you can get on their case.

I agree with the first part of Ray's post. All of us enjoy our cars differently, mod our cars differently and certainly drive them differently. In this case, there is no right or wrong.

Ray,

If you have an inflated ego I would stay away from racing in any venue. All inflation is very temporary and most likely only realized by the driver.

The "boy racer" I think is void over 50... maybe mold racer.

Lighten up Ray. You have brake dust on your front rims.

Bill,
Great post. While I don't think you have to go racing to enjoy these cars, taking them to the track at least a couple times should be a requirement. How else can you truely appreciate what they are capable of?

Nice to see the 13 rule in effect for NASA. Not!

Hey, I applaud Bill for his fun as well as others for whatever they want to do with their cars.

I agree with Bill that tracking a car makes these cars really fun, well beyond that of any street driving that I am aware of. Go to the track guys, you might like it and it won't hurt anything to do a few DE days a year! Just stay away from hard obstacles

Making a bit of Monday night mayhem, eh, Bill?!

I respect people who want to concours their cars, despite that aspect of Porsche ownership having absolutely zero interest for me. I just can't get any more **** about my car since I'm already kinda/sorta **** about it.

Some of us are straddling that racing fence, DE's being about as close as we are going to come to "racing". For me, it's an issue of economics, time and the preservation of an exceptionally nice car that I know will slowly deteriorate the more I drive it and the more I track it. I, for one, bought the car to drive and I firmly believe that Porsches are meant to be driven, and driven on the track. Porsche's current racing stance notwithstanding, there is so much history in the marque. I hate seeing museum cars that are no longer on the road; they were not born for that life.

Many people who have bought Porsches can appreciate the history but still not have the desire to track or race their cars. That's okay. They've paid a great deal of money for their possession and they can do with it in any way they like since their enjoyment may come from the aesthetics, the pursuit of modifications, enhancing the sonic qualities of their stereo, making their cars even more perfect, etc.

However, owners who haven't tracked their cars are missing an essential aspect of owning a high performance car. It's a Porsche, and it's meant to be driven at speed. It's almost like having Molly Sims for a girlfriend and sleeping in separate beds. But it's a free country and there is no law that says you have to track your Porsche or nail your hot girlfriend, despite it seeming odd to a segment of the population.

It's your car and your money; do what you want!

Bill,

I agree that SOME kind of track time is necessary for truly appreciating our car's engineering and heritage. As for racing, I applaud your endeavors, ...something that I wish to do one day with any 911, finances permitting. I also find your ability to ignore the cosmetic issues remarkable. Again, one day. But for now, I guess the occasional time trials will have to do. OTOH, those track-prepped 951s are pretty cheap....

Edward
