Default May want to try these, cheap...

...and 140 tire hardness rating. Then scoot out to Buttonwillow and break them in, along with your Walrod bushings, etc...Just saying!

Let me know how they are. They have mixed feedback and supposedly run very wide. They even come in 245/35/18 size ...

I have not tried them on a Porsche, but I am running GTRadial Champiro UHP1 tires on my Jetta. It is a better performing tire than the Sumitomo IMO, it can handle the heat better and doesn't get as greasy.
I ran these at Big Willow and the Fontana Roval with no issues whatsoever. Not quite as good as the Direzza Star Specs on my Porsche, but I got a complete set from Discount tire in 225/40R18 for $350 mounted and balanced!!! I liked them so much I ordered in another set, paid cash and walked out with them for future use for $260 since the dealer said they were being discontinued
From some online research the UHP1 is pretty popular in Australia with the Holden crowd and is also becoming popular in the Lemons racing groups.

Actually this is my 2nd 911 and my third Porsche. I've run with Good Years, P Zeros, RE50 & RE70 in the past. Found that for street driving at the time the P Zeros chewed off way to fast and the RE tended to show tred block cupping on the rears and became quite loud. These experiences were back in the late 90's. My real world experience has been great with several sets of ATLs for an all season tire.

There's nothing wrong with it, you just don't. I don't have experience with a million things out there, either. But would strongly suggest trying at least one set of good tires on your 993 and making your own conclusions. Today's "inexpensive and great" tire suggestions would be:

Bridgestone Re-71R
BFG Rival S
Yokohama Advan A08
Hankook R-S3 V2
Dunlop StarSpec Z2

In that order, but depending on pricing, either of these will do. You might be surprised. Very.

Haha, it's not that bad! I didn't have that kind of mold release marks on any of my tires. I am not saying the GT-Radial is the next R-S3 (it's not!), but it is certainly the best CHEAP track-capable + everyday tire on the market IMO.

Here is the front tire after a full day at Fontana. Granted my Jetta doesn't handle as well as a Porsche and I have zero Camber adjustability so the roll-over isn't as good as it should be, but for $65 a tire it's an amazing tire! I am able to keep up with and sometimes even pass faster cars like R32's, GTI's and GLI's in my 140hp TDI Jetta. Yes, the CC in the 2nd picture got me on the straight, but I passed him again on the next corner.

It's a Cobalt SS page, but a fun read and review of these tires anyways:

It's a good datapoint, Chaos. The pic, though... (Amazon has the same one) I believe it's even mounted the wrong way on the rim in the manufacturer's picture

This is the second most-brilliant post in this thread and very similar to my own choices.
But I think you mean Yoko AD08

Nile is a smart guy, pay attention to him.

(in Forrest Gump voice) - I'm not a smart man

AD08, of course. For some reason I can never get Yoko's names right. Probably because I never owned AD07 or AD08s myself, though did drive on them in different cars and liked them quite a lot.

Oh, forgot the Toyo R1R. Love that tire, that was my previous set on 993. It works really well in cooler weather, more like and 70s, while R-S3s like hotter temps, like 80s-890s. R1R is getting a it older, but still a great tire.
