Post Techron vs. Pro-Gard

Both Chevron products. Searched the archives for anyone using it, but to no avail. Is there an advantage to using one or the other. Pro-Gard contains Techron, so why not use Pro-Gard? Besides, Costco sells a 4 pack for $10.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Techron bottle is a concentrated fuel system cleaner designed to be used at greater intervals than the less concentrated Pro-Gard line of products which are formulated as fuel additives.

In short, Pro-Gard is priced below Techron because its got less of whatever magic potion it is that scrubs the engine.

I might add, I've been using LubroMoly Ventil Sauber Valve Cleaner & Jectron FI Cleaner, but don't have a clue whether they are better than Techron. They do come w/neat little blue funnels though.

Hi Nelson:

From my observations about using Techron and its "brother", Pro-guard; I'd say that Techron works far better.

We use & recommend the LubroMoly stuff; Ventil Sauber (valve clean) and Jectron (FI cleaner) and I'll say that the LubroMoly stuff works faster.

In either case, you cannot go wrong with LM products or Techron.

I don’t doubt that the Lubro Moly solved your bad idle problem, but it didn’t do it by cleaning your ISV. It solved the problem by cleaning your fuel injectors and/or intake valves. No fuel passes through the ISV, so there is no way it got cleaned during this process. It’s still a good idea to remove and clean the ISV occasionally.

Has anybody tried BG-44K? I see references to it on lot's of other sites, like this one:

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php

There's a thread here that seems to say it's better than Techron:
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000119

It seems more expensive than LubroMoly:

Nelson,

Thumbs up on E.T.Y. Import Parts. ....not affiliated, just a happy customer.

A bit cheaper still if you order in quantities of >5. And if you have them ship to a business address instead of residential, it will save you on shipping.

I am a learn-as-you-go guy and luckily, I didn't even have to learn this much to solve my problem. I just tried the easiest possible solution first, and it worked. Wouldn't it be nice if life (and Porsches!) always worked that way?

I am in the process of running a can of BG44 in my 95 cab. I thnk it sat for a while prior to me buying it. I am having starting problems off and on. My neighbor gave me a can of the BG44 (Hes a car dealer) and he swears by the stuff. Says is a lot cheaper that a tune up.

I have put about 50 miles on it right now and it appears that the starting problem is on its way out...

I will keep you updated

Is an oil change recommended after the LubroMoly valve and FI cleaners, or any of these other cleaners, as it is after a Techron treatment?

If you change your oil regularly, like 3 or 4 or even 5,000 miles, a change is not needed after an injection cleaner.

You should also use the injection cleaner regularly, so that crap doesn't build up too much.
