speaking of strut bars and identification-- i purchased this one used, thinking (hoping) it was the Porsche Strut Brace like this one on Gert's site:
http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93012.htm
well, mine looks the same, but i see no Porsche part number on it.
can anyone identify the strut brace below??
( i currently have the stainless Brey Krause bar installed on my car, I could notice a difference right away pulling on to an incline, then on a rough street )

From Tom's description, it sounds like the DAS roll bar is as safe at the TechArt unit, maybe more so. I like the idea of not using the driver/passenger seat belt hard points for the roll bar.
For a Cabriolet, however, the TechArt unit has the advantage that by connecting to the shoulder strap hard points, it gives the sides of the car some bracing that is otherwise missing.
I hope that none of us ever have an opportunity to find out how effective our roll bars are.

Max, you have the Porsche factory brace, there are no identification marks on this part. It comes in a plastic bag that has the Porsche label and part number.

Silly Q? Do you have to redo the front end alignment after you install this strut brace ? I'd have thought that if the strut bar does its job the whole front end should "move" less and might require different alignment specs ?

Greg - it's a super easy DIY. The two hardest issues are 1) making sure you don't overtighten the easily stripped threads; 2) deciding if, how and where to cut the carpet to allow the bar to show through (so you can remind yourself that you actually have it.)

My feeling is that almost all of the strut braces do what they are intended to do. It is possible that some offer more compression rigidity than others, but I doubt that translates into a palpable difference between bars unless maybe you have a full race suspension and gumball tires.
If you can buy into that assumption, then I think your decision will just come down to personal preference and/or price. I had a Weltmeister bar on my 964, and I was happy with it. It was under the carpet, which was best since it was just yellow cadmium plated - nothing to look at.
On my 993, I have the AJ-USA bar. It appears quite rigid, well made, and with its black anodizing looks good on top of the carpet. And the price was right - $133 to Rennlisters in a Christmas special last year.

A dumb question maybe -- but WTH. If strut braces are such a good idea, how come Porsche didn't include them? And what's the downside in terms of extra wear/stress on other components?
