Default 996 wheel fitment on 993

I have solid spoke turbo-twist wheels on my 993 WB. In looking for hollow spoke alternatives, I've seen some 996 versions that look like they should fit OK. They are 18x8 et 50 and 18x11 et 45 vs my factory 18x8 et 50 and 18x10 et 42. So the 996 rear tires would be a little closer (less than 1/2") to the outside of the fender well, which seems ideal. I'd just like to confirm if others have used these on their 993 wide body cars, and that there aren't any conflicts with big reds.

Zero issues Ken! Many local 993s are running this setup. Here is an example on Pzeros.

The rear offsets with 11" are def nicer. Really a matter of preference as some prefer the traditional 993 twists.

I already have a brace, although I'm not clear why having lighter weight wheels would make the strut more necessary.

Thanks. I wouldn't be adding spacers since the 11" rear wheel widths already extend the tires almost 1/2" outwards. But good to know there is that much leeway.

This set would be a screaming deal, and probably what you're looking at.

Get em refinished, mounted, balanced, and go!

A strut brace helps to firm things up in the front; add a set of walrod bushings if still running the 20 yr old oem's, and some adjustable suspension...and you're well on your way down the slope! ☺

I agree. My hesitation is due to trying to decide if I should go ahead with some RH Speedlines or Tramonts, which are what I really want (but are obviously more expensive). I'd still have my solid spoke turbo twists if I wanted to revert to factory look.

Yep! But the weight and price savings would be too difficult to ignore, if it were my WB, 993...

Thats a hell of an upgrade in the terms of weight savings of rotating mass, and lessening the moment of inertia! I think the 996 hollow spokes would always be worth $1200-$1500 currently, and more as time goes on.

Tramonts visually it's one of my favorites! I think they only downside is they are heavy, so exactly the opposite of the hollow spokes. But boy they look incredible.

Original wheels on 993 were 16s
Optional were 17s
Porsche recommended the strut with anything over 17....so 18 and up need the brace for better support and less stress as traction pad is increased......good you already have it.....inexpensive upgrade...

I know Porsche recommend the steering rack brace in TSB 4440 for certain MY 1995 VINs. Subsequent cars had it mounted by default from the factory.

This is the first I've heard of them also recommending a strut brace. Can anyone confirm this in a TSB or something? I like to do things "by the book" so appreciate any additional info on this recommendation.

I think Abiazis might have read about the brace refered to in this TSB, and may have have mistaken it to be a strut brace.

Yes, people say the same thing about the RUF boat anchors, er ah, wheels. ☺
