Motorsound tips are chrome, those are standard Varioram ones.

Are they chrome, or polished SS?

These are motorsound (standard tips are eye-shaped, not squarish -- see below), and neither style tip so far as I know or have ever seen was chrome plated (as opposed to polished). These are stainless, but they're not as silvery as raw stainless. I'm not sure what the finish is, but they're Gillet with factory part numbers. I think the wood table makes them look more brown than they are. They're basically a darker silver color.

Standard on the left, motorsound on the right.

Not to stir the pot, but I'm 99.9% sure that you have a 1995 standard exhaust tip on the left. The right is either a dirty, tarnished motorsound tip or a standard 96+ tip.

Motorsound is just like the 96+ but with a polished steel finish.

Check out Carnewal for more info at http://www.carnewal.com/products/P93...d-Exhaust-Tips.

Please read the words that are written in clear English in my post. I posted that photo precisely to show the *difference* between the two kinds of tips.

Your tips are standard 1996 varioram squoval tips. Stainless steel but not polished or plated

Google the part number you list or look at PET, its quite clear

Motorsound tips are the exact same shape and size as yours but the are polished and then chrome plated

Search in here, lots of other info on them

The Carnewal photo is correct

Okay, thank you. I read some threads in the archives full of elaborate conjecture exploring these details (although the Motorsound tips are apparently not chromed, but polished stainless).

tl;dr:

Just trying to do my part as a pedantic Porsche owner here. We all have a reputation to uphold.

I've read through your post again. Your English is clear, just a bit ambiguous to me.

In the spirit of clearing up the ambiguity, there are three types of exhaust tips discussed in this thread. Two were standard, one optional.

1) Standard 1995: the one on the left in your pic. They are oval and have a mat finish.
2) Standard 1996+: maybe the one of the right in your pic. They are square and have a mat finish
3) Motorsound: maybe the one on the right in your pic. Definitely the one in the Carnewal link.

So the wide ovals that came on my car with the motor sound package are an additional option?
