I find it interesting that the consensus is to keep the 964 on the 993 forum. The non original aspects seem to help people with that opinion though. The 993 has bolstering HDs and a 993 cup diff so it is very fun to drive. That being said, I just installed an all new H&R setup on the turbo and it also handles very nicely. This isn't easy and I am taking all of this in for now.

For those who say skip the renovation and put the kid in public that is not an option. You see, I have a very cool wife that actually encourages me to race. She also doesn't mind me having motorcycles so the least I can do is shell out some money to make our (her) house stunning. Also Denver public high schools suck. My kid is a hard worker and deserves the best. I would never choose any selfish pursuits if my family had to make any monetary sacrifices. They already sacrifice a ton living with me.

do you like having a car you don't drive? if so keep the turbo, but if you like using your toys, keep the 993 and cash in on the turbo.

I remember you talking about teaching at the track when I met you. I think you would be sad to see the turbo go, but you were talking about selling it back then. I would say ditch the turbo you don't drive and keep on tracking the 993. You know you'll never take the 964 to the track...

Interest rates are at their lowest in 60 years. Borrowing money these days is way cheap.

Personally, I would finance the renovation and if you need the garage space, sell the vehicle in your garage with the lowest value - '99 Boxster?

I'd wager that the short/long term appreciation of either the 964 Turbo or 993 would exceed whatever interest rate you'd pay to finance your renovations. I'd try to keep both the 964 Turbo and 993 as I see their values increasing or at least maintained, so at least you are preserving capital.

Boxsters are plentiful and you can buy another Boxster a lot easier than you can buy another 964 Turbo or 993.

I was just kidding...kinda. There are good public schools and success is not defined by how good of a school you went to, although it does help.

While my opinion does not come with a guarantee I'd venture to say the majority of Rennlisters would agree that a 964T is a better investment than a 993S. Having said that I just picked up a 98 C2S in glacia white and love it! But I'd sell it before I'd sell my 964T
Stock market has also gone up just as much, should we put all our money into it?

And what if the today's 100k car is 80k car in 2 years and 50k car in 5 years? What if low rates are gonna be there in 10 years?

While boxster is 15k car today and 10k car in 5 years.

And you are forgetting maintenance. How much is a new turbo for 964?

I agree though that if OP sells 964T it's harder to come by and prices may stay for a while. But who cares. Do what you have to do and move on!!! There are so many cool cars out there 964T and 993 are just two of them. There always will be bargains, ups and downs.

But seriously.... Sell the 993 and keep the Turbo. That is the smart answer moneywise. If you need more money that the 993 can bring, then sell the Turbo. But don't do that unless you absolutely have to. The Turbo is an appreciating asset. And 964T > 993 NA.
From someone whose 2 kids been in private from pre-k , I would say go public. I could of bought a few pcars well..lol.. Wait - but daughter is off to private college in the fall. Sell the turbo, and have fun with the sex change 993.

The Boxster is a Spec Boxster race car and I probably have more in it than the 993.

The car looks more blue in person. The iPhone pics make it look more purple than it is in person. I actually really like the color since there are not many blue P cars. This is a picture of my car that looks much closer to the real thing.

Sell both, and buy a 993TT with significant mileage and a relatively recent refresh. Drive the hell out of it and never look back.

My answer before reading the post was of course 993 - but you really do have a dilemma.

If you want a collector car - the 964T

If you want a driver - the 993

You need to make that choice.

Too funny...Same philosophy (especially at our altitude and the effect the sun has on cars)...and I am also limited to five cars.

Assuming the others cars are required, and your desire to retire in a few years and maintain some sense of "budget", I would sell the 993...the air cooled market is still frothy enough that cars that are not perfect can still be moved quickly, when the market cools off (or down or sideways) cars with "history" will be harder to sell.
