Just completed a CAE shifter install in my car. I found the travel stop screws did not need to be adjusted as supplied.
It sounds like your 1st gear lateral travel stop (screw X) needs to be screwed in a bit to limit the overtravel and binding. Obviously you need to see how that adjustment affects 2nd gear, if at all.
Like Cup Car, I have steel syncros and the shifter is definitely notchy. It prefers a smooth but continuous firm operation.

Mike,
Thank you. I'll do that and report back.

All good. I swung by my friend's house and carefully tightened the 'x' screw until the overtravel was eliminated. It took less than a full turn.

That CAE is the ultimate shifter for track! Been drooling over it for years. It’s one of the best ways to avoid money shifts.

@Cupcar were you who gave me the idea on rennlist to do my center console? I did that, and love my CAE. Honestly it is the best thing I've done to this car. It makes it so much more fun to drive.

Excellent work and welcome to the ABS sculptors guild! A very satisfying project!

I'm glad I helped you and I feel the same about the shifter being one of the best mods as far as making the car fun to drive.

Default CAE Shifter

Hi Gents,

I have purchased my CAE shifter and was wondering if you guys had any additional photos of your "workmanship" during the modification ?

Any further details or stepped photos would be highly appreciated.

I will certainly upload my progress photos too !

Thanks

The partition between handbrake insert and original shift boot was moved back by amount shown between the red lines. Then 2" ABS plumbing tubing had the perfect radius for the corners. Flat sheet used for side walls. The insert under the hand brake was simply shortened and glued together with ABS cement using some reinforcing pieces of ABS under the joint. The whole thing was then covered in leather.

thanks to cupcar I have a center console again.
thanks cupcar! merry christmas!

I know, I need some sound deadening, maybe.
some carpet, maybe.
probably that passenger side servo would be nice.
and seats, I need seats.
but I have a center console with switch plates, kept the cae shifter and it looks great.

Mini update: I made a form fitting cover out of sheet metal, then covered it with leather. It's installed around the base of the CAE shifter, giving it a little bit more of a finished look.

This looks perfect to my eye. It has a raw cup car vibe. No need for carpet or sound deadening. I wouldn’t change a thing. CAE for the win.

haha, unless you have a wifee factor that you want to take out to dinner. Unless she’s a racing type of gal, which my wife is definitely not (and that’s ok).
