Question Pricing Help Needed From the Experts (you guys)

Hello all,

After hours of learning from you all as I hunt for a great 993, I feel like I MAY have found a good one. I could do with some guidance on price, and anything that's worth knowing as I venture into my first Porsche ownership experience. An experience that I have been working hard toward since about 7 years old. Here is the info on the car and the price they are asking -

1996
Black on black
Original paint in lovely condition
All service docs
2 owners
Seems mechanically great (will be getting a PPI)
Turbo wheels
18k miles

They are asking $72,500

Thoughts? Advice? Price seem a million miles off?

Thank you for any input. Immensely appreciated.

What state is it in, which seats does it have? Buy it.

Seems to be in great condition. Drives really well, seems well loved.

I wasn't sure if the price seemed fair, or at very least fair enough! Thanks.

I assume manual trans?

If so, that looks like a solid deal, considering the market.

If it's coming from a reputable specialist, would you guys still recommend a PPI?

PPI is still a good idea. Looks like a nice car but that drivers seat looks like it has more than 18k miles on it. That car is a garage queen that hasn't been driven much. Will you be driving it and putting miles on it? If so you might be better off buying something with more mile for less money.

I thought the exact same thing about the drivers seat. Not sure how to explore that more. They have solid documentation for the milage as does the CarFax.

I will definitely be driving the car. It's a second car, for sure, but will be driven. My theory on the low milage means that I can put on an easy 10/15k and still have a relatively low milage car. If I was thinking about it's inherent investment value. Thanks for the input, super valuable .

Hahaha, good point. It'll be going for a PPI. Would you recommend Porsche dealer for PPI?

I'd say it's priced at the top end of the price range for a car as described. Looks like a Lux Sport photo shoot.

Consider that at 20 years old it's very possible even a low mileage car can have issues. When I got mine 4.5 years ago it had only 17k on it. Well maintained by a shop that stored many collector cars. Made the deal contingent on PPI plus seller was to be responsible for any remediation. Good thing as tires were 10 years old and in the end my $350 PPI resulted in about $2400 in benefits (tires, battery, windshield washer reservoir and pump, major service, etc.). I used the Porsche service checklist and their CPO form as the basis for the contract terms and the PPI was done at a Porsche dealer that knows air cooled.

Seats look just like mine did in photos, but mine ended up "as new" and it was just the heavy grain.

It's a big price but may be what I was after. A "brand new" classic air cooled car.

Enjoy!
