Lightweight Battery
I'm in need of a new battery for my 1997 S. Being always conscious of the car's overall weight, I thought I would try to purchase a lighter weight battery to save some weight(found the average weight of batteries to be about 40 lbs). Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help!

Jim,
I've installed an Optima Orange Top, but it weighs 37.9 lbs. so that won't help you much.
At least, it's spillproof, more powerful, and truly zero-maintenance. There are some installation issues, though, so please review the old posts if interested.

There are some lightweight batteries out there but they are costly even compared to the Optima's. Since the front of the car is not the best place to loose the weight don't worry about it. If you want to lose some weight get a Super Cup exhaust and cat by pass pipes. There is a ton of weight that can be removed from the rear end and that will make a performance difference. You may not want to do that to a daily driver though...

Here are the specs for the SP800 Stinger battery.
Internal resistance 4.2mž
5 Second Cranking 924A
Short circuit current 2400A
Weight 24.9 lbs
Temperature range -40 C to + 60 C
Is the 625-650 CCA you indicated, the same as the 5 second cranking indicated above.
Thanks
