Looking at the picture are you sure this is the only "wet" spot?

The fitting at the top of the picture looks "wet." Could it be dripping?

Looks like a case bolt o-ring or two are starting to leak. Remember the rings are 20+ years old.
The take a set over time and eventually start weeping. The upper row are part of the oil delivery
plumbing and under pressure. This is why when I do a top end I will near always reccomend a reseal at the same time. Far less expensive than having to go back later.

They are included in a case gasket set so you get the crank seals and a few other o-rings,etc.
that of course you were going to change out anyway!

no chance this is oil leaking out of the varioram assembly? They seem to have seals that leak oil that accumulates in the intake.

I don't think this would be from VRAM.
In the picture the actuator, where the oil leaks from VRAM, is on the left edge of the picture and over fan shroud. My VRAM is leaking oil, but that area was bone dry when we did plug wires.

I guess thats true, it would be too far over to drip through the seam between the shroud and that cover.

The best way to identify the source of the leak is to clean up the entire area with brake cleaner and then take it for a good ride and re-look for oil.

If it ends up being O-rings most people here recommend a full set made of Viton from Wrightwood Racing (the green ones).
