Default Corner Balance

I am replacing my M030 suspension with a stock set up. Stock shocks and struts but will keep the M030 sway bars on the car. This is all thanks to a fellow Rennlister. I love this place.

I know I'll need a four wheel alignment after this is done. But what is a corner balance? I did a search, admittedly quick, and didn't find out what a corner balance is? What is done to the car in performing this process?

AND many of you have experience in replacing your shocks and struts, except you're tring to get CLOSER to the earth . For those of you who didn't DIY this project, would you mind sharing with me what you think this swap out will/should cost? If you're not comfortable publishing what you spent, you could PM me. Or, if this is too personal a question, I understand.

thanks Rennlist

Guys, a corner balance and alignment for a suspension should only be around $400 to $500. I have this done at my local shop and they charge about 5 hours labor @$80/hr. If you are paying $1000 it must be a dealer, oooch!

Excellent article on Corner Balancing in Chris W.'s post above. Read it through if you really want to know.

I just had my car corner balanced and aligned. I told them in advance, my weight which goes into the driver's seat, the ride height I wanted front and rear and they adjusted the corner weights weights accordingly.

At the conclusion of the job, I have the 60/40 front to rear, and less than a a 50 Lb. cross weight Left Front to Right Rear, Right Front to Left Rear delta.

Can't take credit for it; found it through Google. But glad it helped.

I just had my PSS-9s installed and the alignment and corner balancing were $300 total. (installation was another $800). New tires later this week and I'll be golden!

Thanks a bunch everybody. Thanks to these posts, I am now a much more informed 'shopper' when I go looking for the tech who will do my work.

If I was younger and cooler, I'd say something like 'Rennlist Rocks'. But I'm not. So I ain't saying it.

Thanks to all.

If you are putting in stock Monroe Struts and Shocks, there is very little to corner balance. The rear shocksd have no adjustment...they can add some plastic spacers if needed. The front struts have some thread on them so the spring perches can be adjusted a wee bit but not much.

A good alignment is important...done by a shop that doesn't say what? when you mention kinematic toe for the rear. They need a special Porsche tool to set the kinematic toe. Advice: Don't scrimp on the alignment. Best of luck with the car.

Thanks Martin. For my use, I thought I might forego a corner balance. Going to use M030 sway bars with stock springs and struts (factory). I may switch to Bilsteins struts at a later date, keeping the stock springs.

I believe I've found a good aligment shop, good history and customer base, and they have the tools.

I appreciate your answer Martin. Thank you,
chuck
