Looks like the Porsche wiring schematic is incorrect. It shows a 15A fuse in position 26 yet my fuse box has a 25A fuse in that slot.

Tom, the fuel pressure test port is circled in the photo below. It is on the driver's side fuel rail. That view is from the side.
That metal cap screws off and is where the fuel pressure gauge is connected. The cap supposedly is a one time use item.

If you have a screwdriver stick it in the end of the wire and ground that.

After trying to crank, pop hood while key is in 2nd position. You should be able to hear fuel pump running. Pull negative battery lead and make sure dme relay is seated all the way down. Wait 15 mins and reconnect battery terminal. Car will most likely start. Had exact same symptoms and issue once.

Tom, sorry I could not help out, sitting here in the airport waiting on a delayed flight.
Info from what I gleaned by trying to help TOM:
-I brought 2 fresh in the box DME relays, no help
-I brought a fresh in package 23A battery for key fob, no help
-I brought a Jump Pack which boosted battery to over 13 volts, no help
-I pulled all of the fuses in and around the # 26 position (they are indeed 25 amp) and they looked fine
We could not hear the fuel pump when key was turned on with the bonnet up listening over fuel tank area.
Last I heard (I had to leave to catch a flight) Tom was going to try and pull a line from the fuel filter to see if anything was being pushed by the pump.
The car seemed to turn over fine just no catch at all, I could not smell anything that remotely smelled like unburned fuel.
Good Luck Tom and sorry again I wasn't able to help out........Mark.

+1 on re-seating dme relay, also try giving it a couple of smart taps. This was enough to get me home from the chinese takeout when this happend to me last summer. Bad dme causes no fuel delivery.
Or you could try jumping the relay, per shop manual (also lets you test fuel pump):
Pull DME relay (R53) off the Central Electrical
System and use a fuse-protected shopmade
jump lead to connect pin 30 to pin 87 b
(identifications 3 and 7 on Central Electrical
System). The fuel pump should now operate.
Don't forget to unplug the relay jumper when not in use!
Edit: sorry, didn't see previous post, sounds like not a dme issue. Maybe fuel pump.

I'm really not very familiar with the 993 but on my 911 I pulled the coil wire from the centre of the distributor and ground it somewhere. (Even on the distributor centre electrode). Turn it over and see if you get a spark.
If you have a screwdriver stick it in the end of the wire and ground that.

Do you have a screwdriver or other long-ish metal item inserted into the plug boot? You need to make sure the inserted end is in contact with the plug connector (but avoid damaging / bending it).
The other end should be sticking out of the boot far enough that you can put the metal close to a ground point, about 1/4 to 1/8" away. But do NOT touch / short out the metal to the ground point or you could fry your coilpack.
Then you will need someone to crank the motor while you watch for spark. If no spark, you might have a bad coil pack, or distributor problem.
Edit: btw if you disconnected your negative battery lead, you will have to use your remote to turn off the immobilizer before you try starting the motor next time.
