Cache that George refers to is the metal under tray for the shifter (and torque tube for C4's), actually you just need to remove the smaller square-triangular shaped cover with little vent slots. Pic below.

Anyone know for sure?
If it were me I wouldn't chance it. Last thing you need is a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

You can test if there is fuel arriving at the outlet of the fuel filter. Undo the outlet pipe, and place a dish to catch the fuel that (hopefully) will pump out of the filter and spill into the dish. Crank the engine briefly; if there is no flow it's either the filter, the pump... or you are out of gas. No need to test the pressure because the problem is upstream.

If there is good flow, problem is either fuel pressure regulator, or injectors (ie wiring). You could check that the injector wiring isn't disconnected, but that's pretty unlikely (they are all part of the engine wiring harness).

If you get to that point, the pressure check makes sense, but personally I would make sure to have the brass replacement cap on hand first. It's not like a throwaway notation for a bolt where the manual says "replace" - the manual is pretty explicit about this, devoting a whole paragraph to it.

That is the least of your worries.

Radio code will not affect starting & running of motor. But no stereo function until you enter the code, you'll just have to listen to the Flat Six Symphony (once the players call off the musician's strike).

MAF: you need to reconnect the wire, pretty sure car wont start & run without it.

Hmm, we haven't heard from Tom since late afternoon, so I wonder if:

1- he did Geo's chiropractic adjustment, reconnected the MAF, got it started, and is now on the road

2- he built a makeshift 3rd world jack to get under the car and it fell on him (hope not)

3- he is in the bar getting really, really drunk.

Seeing as Tom is a newfie, my money is on #3

Default Well here is my spin on this...

If and when my car were to die, and it has only once 1X in 68,000 miles (DME Relay of course)***, I call AAA and have it flat bedded to the nearest Porsche dealer. Then, I find the closest bar with a flea bag bed, and get drunk as a Lord. When I wake up, I call the Porsche Service Department and make arrangements to pick up my car.

***My 'wrench" has me changing out my DME relay ever 36 months as a preventative measure.

That's a bit over-kill, isn't it? I've carried the same spare DME for at least 15 years and haven't had to change the original - yet.

Funny... I read that as "wench" - and inferred that your wife wanted you to refresh the DME regularly so that you wouldn't spend too much time in fleabag motels, getting $hitfaced and gawd knows what else.

I do not recall saying to remove electric MAF etc electric plugs, replug all.
I only meant to remove the air filter cover, to have access to tap the fuel filter
did you open the tank filler cap and close it ?
fingers crossed

Edit: if you are getting "click click click" when starting, your battery is low and you need a boost or re-charge.

Did you check if fuel is pumping through the filter as described in post #92?

If it is pumping good quantities of gas at the filter outlet, pump is probably ok - problem is downstream eg pressure regulator.

If pumping little or no gas, issue is upstream.

So if the pump isn't working, why is enough gas getting through the filter right now, such that the car runs for 10 seconds or so?

Gasoline exerts "partial pressure" in an enclosed container. Partial pressure that builds up in the gas tank could push fuel through the filter until equilibrium is established in the system. Then when engine is cranked, that little bit of built-up pressure is enough to run the engine for a few seconds.

Congratulations!! Great perseverance. I learned a lot from all on the exchanges that took place the past two days. GREAT ending....nothing more rewarding than being able to continue your drive.
