1996 Targa Pricing
How does this sound?: 1996 Targa, Aventurine Green/Marble Int., Full Leather, M030 Susp., Full Power Seats, Aluminum Factory int. accents, Digital Sound, and new tires. The only downside is the mileage...106,000 miles, perfectly maintained freeway miles. This car is pristine for the mileage. $38,500. Should I go for it?
You are looking for one of a possible 462 imported 96 Targas distributed over the US and Canada. Some people have searched for a long time to find their perfect car. Okay, here are some ideas.
Is it a 6 speed or automatic?
I just picked up a 96 Targa, Polar silver, sport seats, needs tires and some maintenance, no accidents. Reasonable records. 60,000 miles. Paid about $34,300 US up here in Canada. Will clean up really nice but needs some TLC. All the TLC will be from yours truely.
Your car has the M030 suspension, Digital sound, etc. Mine has an aftermarket stereo with a 580 Watt amplifier! The suspension is worth a premium but the shocks might be weak with the mileage. Hard to tell.
Sounds like an little high given the mileage. It was a daily driver for sure. How is the general wear and tear with that much use? Any squeaks? Mine is tight as a drum with no squeaks at all (which I have heard is unusual for a Targa). How does it drive?
How are the maintenance records? Paint? Any accidents?
Price is really subjective as well...depends on how the the car drives, appears, etc. How do you feel about it? Carefully about getting hot-headed! (I know!)
Have you done the PPI yet?
Just some ideas...Have fun!

Seems a little high for that many miles. I bought my 95 non targa with 82k miles for 33.
Find out about the records and maintenance. Original clutch? There's 2k soon. I know my 030 shocks are shot - another 3k for the Pss9 and sway bars.
I would definately try to deal, but with that said, my car is proof that there is nothing wrong with a high mileage car.
