2016 marked the 33rd year of the Porsche and Vintage VW Literature, Toy and Memorabilia Show, more commonly known as the LA Lit and Toy Show. The Saturday show has become one of the staple events during an unofficial Porsche weekend of activities, where a variety of nearby restoration shops and dealers — such as Willhoit Enterprises, European Collectibles, Carparc USA, L.A. Dismantlers, Sierra Madre Collection, AutoKennel, CPR Classic Restoration, and Callas Rennsport — play host to Porsche enthusiasts and open their doors the Friday before the Lit and Toy Show, as well as the Saturday afternoon, and Sunday afterwards.
The show organizers filled two ballrooms at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel — where the show has been held for over two decades — with over 300 vendor tables. Early birds wanting to ensure the pickings were as good as could be were allowed to enter at the same time as the vendors for an additional fee. As the hours advanced, more and more Porsche and VW enthusiasts, including Jerry Seinfeld and Chad McQueen streamed in, no doubt clearing both the tables of goods, as well as their pocketbooks.
Speaking of goods, the vendors were a diverse group offering up pre- and post-war automobilia items such as vintage auto posters, signs, models, books, brochures, manuals, press kits, clothing, hats, license plates, and original art and photography.
Also on offer were new and used car parts like wheels, lights, exhaust systems, radios, switches, engines and other rare accessories, some of which were even NOS (“new old-stock”).
While parking was expensive, and dare I say diabolical if you ventured to self park, there was plenty of automotive eye candy below and above ground. Nestled near the entrance to the hotel, several rare Porsches and VWs were parked, including Seinfeld’s very original 1958 Porsche 356 A Speedster,
a VW Beetle police car,
and Rennlister Jäger’s bespoke 993 Speedster.

Wanted to shine a special spotlight on this photo from the article ^^
of RLer RJT's craftsmanship:
Awww thank you. Robert is currently customizing that Diorama for the man who bought it at the Lit meet even more. He is hand building the owners 356 race car to replace the speedster that is shown in the pic above. He is getting all the details done perfectly. The guys is going to be blown away. I'm blown away.
Back in 2009 you helped me meet Mr. Seinfeld.
Glad he stopped to catch up with you at the LA Lit and Toy show.

At the LAX Hilton, Mr. Seinfeld was the everyman - no pretense ... just happy to be there & talk Porsches.
As I walked toward the entrance you could hear him enthusing about the custom 911 Speedsters in front of the hotel.
Flashback: years ago I posted a pic on the Speedster type 993 photo thread that I'd never seen on RL, but suspected was of Seinfeld's. His broker confirmed, "that's Jerry's car, taken at the LAX Hilton at the Porsche Literature Show (probably in March 2002)."
Back to the story...
The day before this year's Lit Show, I woke up at the LAX Hilton thinking: "You're at the same hotel & came a long way, why not see if you can park in the same spot?"
As a result, Saturday Jerry was talking about Speedy as I neared. Since his broker introduced us in '09 when they saw Speedy in Monterey, I just pointed at the photo on my phone, saying his was the inspiration. His eyes shined as his contagious grin spread.
Magic timing for a Speedster fan, to hear the only customer whom Porsche converted a 993 cab into a Speedster for
...talking to enthusiasts about my 993.
BIG THANKS to RLer FrenchToast for the animation magic ^^
