I think a lot of people here might disagree with you. Are there people in the US that neglect their cars and simply use them as a transportation device - certainly! Just as I'm sure you'd find the same types of owners in Europe. I've been to Europe a few times and have seen plenty of neglected crap over there.

I know many people who take great care of their cars and are very thorough when it comes to maintenance and service history. Whether they drive a daily driver Honda or a Porsche. I'd be willing to bet that most of the guys here (American and otherwise) on the 993 board are pretty meticulous when it comes to servicing their cars.

While it is a television show and based in the UK and not the continent, some of the cars seen on Wheeler Dealers are fright pigs. Mike makes a big deal about service history and few of the sellers ever seem to have any.

Every single car I've ever owned, daily, Porsche or whatever, has been carefully maintained with accurate records and receipts kept for the next owner.

You are right! As I wrote the Porsches in North America are an probably an exception! But the almost **** interest for stamps in the service book seem to be a european phenomenon!

The previous two owners did not go to dealers for service however the car was in good shape when I got it. It spent it's previous life in New Mexico so all the fasteners and other hardware were nice and shiney. The body exhibited no issues. Since then my focus seems to have been on age and usage related issues.

How many factory trained technicians are still left at Porsche dealerships? Not many! Matter of fact, my car got messed up so bad at one of these dealerships years ago that I just plum reject to return to one of these...

Matter of fact, most air cooled 911 owners are more in tune with this older technology than these dealerships. Service your car yourself, use your service manual to document what was done and when, and keep all receipts.

No problem...

I didn't get great records with my car. I relied on a good PPI before my purchase, and rely even more on my fav indy shop to keep me informed of hidden maintenance items during my annual visits.

I keep all records and receipts, but I truly don't understand the "shock" of someone not having a correctly stamped book. That sounds more like a coin collector than a car enthusiast.
