Yes, I see your point about the large opening in the fire wall. I seen cars here in the US that race with air intake hoses through the back fire wall with filter box mounted in the back.
I will have to do more research regarding the openings.

I was also looking at NACA Duct at rear fenders as this gentleman did.

Here is the quote from the Club Race Rule book... DE doesn't really address modified cars too much, in my book the risks are the same, other instructors may feel differently.

All cars must be equipped with a metal firewall separating the driver compartment from the engine compartment and a separation of any components exterior to the driver compartment (e.g., fuel tanks, exhausts, or just the ground under the car) capable of preventing the intrusion of fire, fluids, gasses, or debris into the driver compartment.

Thanks Jscott82, I was just looking through the rules.
I strongly agree that the risk is the same no matter what we do at the track, the hazard is the same.
"capable of preventing the intrusion of fire, fluids, gasses, or debris into the driver compartment"
With that statement, one could ask "why we drive with our windows open". lol

Ok, so I started the motor over the weekend. Had to use my old ECU with the NA intake system to break the cams.
Next is the exhaust fabrication and tune.

Warm-up and break in lap at Summit. Short lived due to rod bearing failure at Cylinder 5. Lower chain cover nut/bolt came loose, lost oil and starved the bearing at cyl5.

Ugh. And it's always about cleaning the oil lines/cooler/passages after this stuff happens.

Ok, so I got the engine all cleaned and ready for assembly, waiting on the crank and rod. Also, took the oil coolers off and shipped to "pacific oil coolers".

Still needs a good clean wipe down
