Default tt vs NA

All this stuff about tts recently, so let me ask the following question after a bit more intro:

I was curious and so have started investigating the tts a bit. 97s are expensive, still, while 96s are available at much lower prices. A few minor differences (1st gear, etc), but basically the same car (and correct me if I am wrong).

Assume pristine '97 C4S, under 20k miles vs. '96 tt w/ 41k miles. TT has been run on the track, but never wrecked, no paint other than front bumper for chips, and is well maintained with all records. Does need another front bumper respray. Has PSS-9 and extra oil cooler, full leather, and bolt0in roll bar is available. C4S is stock with sport seats, motorsound, all the usual goodies. Perfect maintenance, could be a show car, but is driven. No track time on it.

Which would you prefer as a daily driver and occasional track car (a couple DEs per year)? Understand that you have to choose only one, and if you are like me, the 993 is your dream car. You will put kids in the back on occasion. You will drive it in the rain. You also like really nice things....

I am interested to know your opinions....

BTW - a car like Viken's would be another thing to consider....! Somewhere in between the 2, w/ performance upgraded significantly from stock NA...

Stedge,

I almost bought that turbo from Dave Maynard. I trust Dave a lot as I have known him for years with the Porsche Club. He explained everything to me about the car, and I was very comfortable with it. In the end, I found a '97 turbo for less $$. Even when I did the enhancements, I saved a few dollars.

BTW - GET THE TURBO...

I have a 96TT with 58,000 miles. It performs just like new. I'm ready for PSS-9s, and I'm always up for a few HP upgrades... a little at a time. If you drive a TT and a NA back-to-back, you can decide if the TT does it for you. I wouldn't let a few track days or 41,000 miles bother me, if everything else is right.

BTW, if the bumper need a respray, its the perfect opportunity to remove the bumperettes and install the "S" ducts.

The S ducts are already there, I believe. As are 5 points, and the bolt in cage, PSS-9, aux oil cooler, litronics, full leather, etc. Not sure how one gets 5 point harnesses around the regular full leather seats, so there may be a little inconsistency there, but I will have to check it out...

And, thanks for the reply. I know the tt vs. C4S issue has been beaten to death, but I had to ask or I wouldn't be doing due diligence.

Stedge,

I PM'd you back immediately at 11:50. Hmmm, the server said it was working hard when I sent it. Sorry. Check your messges as I just resent it. If you sent more than one message, then I only received the first one.

Viperbob:

No, I was chiding the rest of the folks, being a PITA. Got your PM and I appreciate it tremendously. Did reply again, though.

I'll chime in with my experience as a TT daily driver/DE car.
I put 15K on mine commuting in one year and I also pop out the kiddie seat and then go to the track and do DE's with it. I'm very pleased with my one car to do it all. Sure it's not a dedicated track car and it is too heavy, but at my beginner level, it's more than enough to be getting on with.
Kid loves it, wife loves it.
Daddy's happy.

i just went through this whole thing. Steve OFE had to get me to drive
a TT. "I don't need to!" I replied. "I drove a C4S and its plenty fast
for Me" I shrilled But Ole Steve kept at it. "You need to drive one! you
really do!" As it turned out my finances got delayed and also my
budget went up about 20%, so I did as he said I rode in his
and drove his. bad Idea, the only way I can explain it is
Its like you are used a little glass of wine in the afternoon.
Its nice and really all you need. But then you taste some of
frances best champagne, and you say "where have you been
all my life!!!" I would have been happy I think with a sweet
C4S but I have tasted this highly intoxicating drug! I know
that there is nothing I cant do on the road with this car!
I can hit the onramp and be at a 100MPH and back to 70
before that cute thing in the Acura even finishes her lipstick and
looks over!!Its amazing and remember my clutch was slipping!

OG, that is what I am afraid of....

Saw your other post, and am very happy your car is done. Hope you enjoy it for a long time!

FYI - my car is blue, as well, but ocean blue. I obviously think your car looks awesome!

What he said - I had a 993 C4 and a buddy of mine got a 993TT. He let me drive it - I was hesitant - but said what the heck. It didn't take long after that to sell the C4 and find a perfect (for me) silver 993TT. These cars are getting harder to come by and I think the prices are probably near the low. I think I could still get most of the money I paid for my car out of it after driving it for nearing 20K miles.
