Way too long.... last 4 nights or so ~12-18 hours
most of the time was spent on getting the baked-on oil off by hand, then I discovered power tools

Impressive, indeed.
Do you mind sharing the process?
I see a can of abrasive powder cleaner on your floor, did you make a paste & use a drill to get that finish ?

^^^ Bar Keepers Friend....works wonders, but needs a little mechanical help for the real baked on grime.

Wow, that is pretty sweet. +1 on spill beans re: you procedure - did you use wire brushes on a drill, orbital polisher or what?

Nice polish job^ I'm assuming that was polishing compound and wheels, not only the barkeepers friend?

Didn't do much on mine. AUX input for the CDR220. 10 minute job.

Barkeepers friend is some great stuff, works well for the exhaust tips.

My process was a bit off because, I didn't start with the inclination to polish the exhaust system, I was just going to clean up the exhaust.

The first and most time consuming step was to remove all of the baked on oil and grime I started with WD-40 then moved to strong degreaser. I used a low grit sanding block to help apply the degreaser. I also used a file to remove the welding splatter.

(with hand tools)

Then I used a orbital sander (220 grit) to get the main areas and to quickly cut through the rust/tarnish. After the majority of the rust was removed I used a wire brush on drill to get into the hard to reach areas. The wire brush was the best thing, I could have saved a lot of time in the beginning if I would have started off with power tools

Finally I bought a polishing kit for a drill it came with a wool wheel/cone and polish. If I was going to do this again I would use an air tool not an assortment of electric drills..... (I used three drills as they tended to get really hot and I did not want to damage them)

Still need to finish the heat exchangers, will repost when it is ready to go back on the car.

Really nice job bringing that finish back to life! Wire brush on drill works wonders, but I wonder if a media blaster would make quicker work of this task?
