Replaced the bearing in the spoiler transmission. Greased gears/cable and put heat shrink tubing over cable as the original stuff was flaking off.

Bought this 96' with 49,000 miles, a couple weeks ago and had it shipped and dropped off at Tampa Porsche. Getting all new gaskets and seals. About 60 hours of work. Afterwards will come minor cosmetic touches to the outside and inside to freshen it up. Can't wait to finally drive a 993!

Wow that is not bad at all considering Porsche's labor rate here is $160 per hour. That would be $9,600 in just labor alone. I have my own Independent Porsche Mechanic which is much cheaper and Flat rate on fixes. Some things I do go to Porsche on also depends what it is.

I'm curious. Was there a specific issue you were trying to address or is this preventative? Reason I ask is that I just bought an almost identical car (black '96 C2 with 43k) and it never occurred to me to pull the motor to reseal everything, nor was it suggested by my Porsche indie, who went over (and under) it with a fine tooth comb. I just replaced the factory belts and started driving it.

Am I missing something?

They are giving me a sizable deal on the labor costs

The engine had leaking issues which I was aware of before I bought it and they found it was coming from the gaskets.

Got mine back from body shop. New euro turbo bumper among other things.
Had to drive in a little snow, but it's home now!

Same here. I bought my 96 last year with 39k on the clock. I'm surprised some of these cars leak after so few miles. Was your car sitting for a while to let the gaskets/seals dry up?

About an hour, it was an easy job. No special tools needed. I used this guide-
