Default 993 Owners - any other Porsche model remind you of 993?

I would have loved to have owned a 993 but I was too young when they came out. But I believe my Cayman (987.2, 2009-2012) has the vintage feel and look that closest resembles the 993, perhaps more than any other Porsche model.

What about you? Do you agree?

I'll buck the trend here and say as the owner of a 987.1 and 993, I can see a bit of where you are coming from.

I have heard from more than one "old-timer" the look of the first-gen Cayman reminds them of older 911's. It's certainly not a direct comparison, but there are hints here and there. It is interesting to me Tony Hatter designed the 993 and then the second-gen Cayman/Boxster 981. To me, though, the 987 Cayman will always remind me of the 904, which is my all-time favorite Porsche. In a talk at Tech Tactics a few years back Mr. Hatter did indicate there are a few intentional design elements from the 904 which were incorporated into the 987/981 - outside of the obvious mid-engine part of course!

The 987 is a basic, no nonsense sports car without too many gadgets which focuses on the driving experience. So in this way I feel a connection. Still, the Cayman is far more modern in many ways than the 993. They do feel quite different in how they drive, though the overall performance is comparable IMO.

A Cayman? Not even close. Maybe because its similar in size. But that's about it.

I don't see any visual elements that tie the cars together. Perhaps the driving experiences are similar, but I've not had an opportunity to drive a Cayman, so I don't know. They are good looking cars though. I like the 987 Cayman R and really like the 981 Cayman GTS.

OP, what do you see in the Cayman design that you think resembles the 993?

My buddy had a 968...the front section, mirrors, and a few other pieces looked VERY similar to my 993. As far as new cars...nothing similar in my eyes.

The Cayman looks a lot more like the air cooled Porsches than the current 911s do. Lots closer to the size, lines, and proportions.

Young Turk. Do you realize what your name means to Armenians? Look it up below if you don't know. The young Turks massacred millions of Armenians. Your member name is inappropriate. Get a clue.

What if I had a member name SS 3rd Reich. How would that make people feel.

I'm not sure how a Cayman has a "vintage feel and look", but admittedly I've never driven one.
That said, they are very nice cars and if it wasn't for the need for rear seats I'd probably prefer a Cayman to a new 911.

Dude...RELAX! This is the internet. Do you not see your response similar in moderating/monitoring as the ****'s you reference? soup ****, forum ****...

Its quite possible 98% of us had no idea as to the reference, until you mentioned it. And quite frankly, I for one, am growing somewhat sick and tired of how every little thing pisses sombody off; so another must change for accomodation purposes...Enough already.

If you have a political statement to make, how about posting in the Off Topic forum, and PM young turk a link?

EDIT

Don't look now 911F1...This is sure to **** you off!
