I finally had my RSRīs installed last night and didnīt find any noticeable difference
Maybe the previous owner installed RSRīs? but he did not mention anything.- Does Robin mark them somewhere to differenciate the RSRīs from the stocks so I know if I have them??
My car came with the motorsound option.- Does the motorsound option include mufflers besides the airbox cover? And if it does, is the sound similar?
You know if you old mufflers were RSR's by the weld mark. Robin cuts the mufflers open and you will see a weld mark on each muffler where he puts them back together. No weld mark, not a RSR.
Robin does not mark his modified RSR mufflers. His "Version 1" (my terminology) had a TIG weld bead around the body of the muffler that showed where it had been opened up and re-welded after surgery. If the mufflers you took off had this weld, they are RSR's.
His latest mufflers (the last 18 mos or so) do not have this tell-tale TIG weld mark around the "can" of the muffler. Robin now opens the mufflers up at their factory weld and re-welds them there. I doubt if you could tell if this operation was done.
I think I am correct in saying that the Porsche "Motorsound" option included a muffler by a different manufacturer (Gilete?). This muffler I believe was a little "louder" than the stock muffler. Others may know more about this than me.
You should be able to notice a difference between Robin's RSR's and even the "Motorsound" option mufflers. You can contact Robin to see if he sold a set of RSR's to your car's PO.
I wonder if you were sent some unmodified ones by mistake? Maybe if you take a close up photo of the welds on both the next and old mufflers, Robin will be able to see what you have
Thanks everybody for the responses; Martin: I agree with you, I will
contact Robin and see if he can modify my existing Gillets *I suppose
they are motorsport and maybe the sound will have a little more
rumble. I knew I woud not terrify my neighbors with the RSRīs but I donīt seem to notice the difference. I do have a feeling that they are less restrictive therefore the engine rev's a bit more freely and with the other mods I have done: fabspeed airbox and K&N, the RSRīs seem to work with a good sinergy.
I did an RSR swap for my Motorsound cans and wasn't as impressed with the sound difference as some of the folks seem to be. I kept the Motorsound cans and bought a used set of stock cans for Robin to operate on. The RSR's do seem to have a slightly throatier idle and low RPM sound. Still I did expect more.....
Good Luck
