I have a sticky set of DE tires on my stock twist wheels and I'm using Continental ExtremeContact DWS 17" to fit the fiske fuchs, or Zuchs. They work well in cold weather. Driving north the night before I saw some slush and below freezing temps and I guess they were predictable. I've never owned a performance 4wd car but I imagine it would only save you on corner exits? I'm not anywhere near 10/10 and I dont want to go skidding across someone's front yard but even with some 'reserve' you can run into trouble when there's a strip of ice from snow melt across a corner or something similar. How would 4wd help you there?

By shifting power forward. But that's all overridden by weight transfer and lateral loading. Which is the total crapshoot when driving aggressively in variable conditions. You can only straighten out corners so much by moving your apex and visually searching where you think there's grip.

You're making my point, Ken. Throw in the Bridge Freezes before Road reality and you realize it's not about strafing apexes. Our old 993's are plenty fast on days like this and I'd say the crisp pine-scented cold fresh air mixed with a little hot oil and the cozy heat in a 993 is a good match for the best summer track day.
