Post Dream Car Garage

Hey All,

Long time no posts for me. Guess I've been busy settling in on the west coast. Can't believe it's almost been a year.
So I have some great news. I am 3 days into escrow on a new home. I have never owned before and I'm really excited. The house has never been lived in and it's really cool.
So my question is, I am going to have a 3 car garage. Right now it's very clean and cool looking. I would like to make the garage look really nice, maybe add some lighting, posters, etc. Without spending a fortune.
I was hoping some of you could post pic's of your garages to help me get some ideas.

Thanks so much.
B

WOW! Nice spaces. I am also building a new house and will be finishing the garage.

Some things to consider.

Floors, This will make one of the biggest impacts on use and appearance. I plan on using an epoxy coating. (not the cheap stuff) You can do a lot of things here, need to surf a little.

Cabinets - You can never have enough Storage space but were you put them is critical. If you put them on the side it can make it hard to get in and out of the car. If on the end and your garage is short it can make it hard to walk around. Your call. In my opinion shelves are a pain in the *** and never look all that nice.

Air - It's nice to have compressed air, but try and keep the compressor outside so the noise does not drive you nuts. (I will be putting mine in a storage locker on the side of the house). I will be using plastic pipe to put some outlets around the garage. I am going to try and get them installed under the sheet rock.

Carpet - Only in a dry climate and not used under a jack

Walls - I love the gray scheme but would not go any darker. It inhales light

Lights - Use the High output flourescents, the standard ones are not enough.

Power, outlets on a couple/three circuits would be great.

If you can have an outlet in the ceiling for drop lights it would be handy. An air outlet for a reel would also be great in the ceiling.

Cable outlet up high so you can watch racing. :-)

Hope that helps,
Pete

wow, those are some really great pic's. It's amazing to see what you guys have done.
Jeff, thanks for the warm welcome back.. We need to meet up one day and hit the track together.

The house that I am buying has 3 garage doors. Each parking spot is narrow but long. It's open on the inside but all the parking is staggered in height.
Pete, I'm definately going to do the epoxy. ANy recommendations would be great. The high voltage lighting is a must as well. I do not plan to do shelves, I do have some storage in a tucked away corner of the garage as well.
JW, AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!! I gotta come hang with you man..
Hopefully escrow will go well and I'll be able to post some pics soon.

Thanks all..
and it feels great to be back on Rennlist.

2) lighting
3) epoxy..

thanks.

B!

Nice to 'see' you back, welcome!

Oh man, you now have 3 car garage... I'm jealous, I'm planning/starting to save for a house also but I'm lucky if it has one car garage.

Take your time on planning, listed what people say about materials etc. and you will defenately have awesome garage!

One idea: make the floor epoxy as black/white checkered pattern, it screams race and make your space little bit more interesting if you are planning to do plain walls (with some posters, of course!)

And don't forget to have a space for a fridge & some sound equipment!

Others: WOW! <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/ylsuper.gif" alt=" - " />

What a great topic to get the imagination going!

I like the black/white checkerboard idea. Maybe instead of epoxy floor paint, one could use 18" tiles of some sort. I think I've seen this set-up in the griot's catalog. I don't know what the tiles are made of, but they would probably be easier to clean than oil stained epoxy and especially better than oil stained carpet! And, if you wait a season for the floor to settle, the tiles could cover the hairline cracks that always seem to develop.

B-line,
One thing that needs to be considerd when setting up the garage is what is it to be used for. Are you a DYI guy or does it all go to the local P-car mechanic. Some of these very beautiful garages are not really set up to install a pss-9 suspension now are they?

Pete
