Admit I have never driven one but interested to hear more on the comparisons

This was about 2003. My brother had his first TT and the Berlinetta at the same time. After driving both, it's clear they both offer incredible drives. I loved the F car, but just like my TT, can't afford to pay for maintenance. I can do just about anything on the TT. The F car might put up some roadblocks to a DIYer.

^^ Ridiculous comment.

But to the OP's question, I don't think I'd trade a 993 for a 355.
My perspective is probably different from most on this board. I currently have a 993S and a Ferrari 360. I haven't owned a 355 but have owned several Ferraris along with a bunch of 911's. 993's are special, as are most Ferraris. Hard to compare the two as they are very different approaches to the same end and provide two very different experiences.
A 355 is going to cost more to maintain than a 993, but I've found my 360 hasn't cost much more to maintain than my 993. Contrary to most comments on RL about Ferrari (mostly made by people that have never owned one) a properly maintained 355 or 360 (or newer model) will be just as trouble-free and reliable as a 993. That's been my actual, real-world ownership experience.

Cheers.

You pretty much killed any possible credibility you may have had with this statement.

I own and service/repair both cars (the F355, a 95 Berlinetta).

The 355 is more of a one trick pony. It's has a glorious engine. If one could fit the 355 engine to a 993 it would pretty much be perfect. The 355 is also very pretty.

However, the 993 is much better built and manufactured with much better materials. The 355 suspension is ALL steel, it has heavy fiberglass bumpers, sticky prone interior bits, crappy shrinking leather etc. Not top flight stuff.

The steering of the 355 pales in comparison to 993 (c2) steering. It doesn't shift as well either. Also, it's not nearly as agile or tossable as a NB 2wd 993.

Ironically though, the 355's a/c is better than 993 a/c.

In the end they are both great cars and I like having both, but the 355 is hardly better in every department.

No offence but it's "an event" because hardly anybody drives these cars more than 500 miles a year.....that and the fact that you certainly get much more attention than while driving a 911, any 911. I had the opportunity to drive an Ferrari around the hills surrounding Maranello and a nice looking woman blew me a kiss while I drove by.....that hasn't happened to me with any 911 yet but hey, I live in hope. Cheers

I admit the Porsche is built like a tank but the 355 has finesse and its more capable. Let alone supercar looks.

Dream garage.
I'd kill for a 993tt. I feel that ship has sailed for me. I'd like to get an aircoooled(either 964 or 993)and go the rbw way with it. It won't be a 993tt but that'll satisfy me.

I wouldn't trade my 993 for a 355. I used to dream about owning a red/tan 355 manual trans, cab. Now days it just seems too dated to me. The sticky buttons, shrinking leather, early 80s looking gauges and high maintenance costs have dampened my enthusiasm for the 355. I think the F car to lust after now is the F430 six speed manual (although I have heard from several owners that the 430 F1 trans is very robust) . I have driven a 360 manual and a 430 F1. Loved them both, but like so many, feel cost of entry is just the beginning of the wallet drain.

I live in a single income household with college education costs for two kids looming,.....the F430, for now, will remain a lofty goal.

David993S == WINNER after spending hours reading about Ferrari options over the years i pretty much came down on the side of the F360 .. (given that i dont have a million dollar budget ..or even half or a third of that)

I think that picture says it all. You go to a car show with a 911 and to most people all 911 's look the same. A very rare person can answer the question of "is that a 993 or a 996 "

A bright red Ferrari just hands down is one of the most beautiful cars on the planet. love my 993 .. its not going anywhere.. but man would i add a red 360 to the garage with a smile on my face.

Glad someone chimed in about the 360 ...I forgot about that, yikes! The 355 is beautiful, to be sure. But the 360 lines are, arguably, quintessential Ferrari ...IMHO. That the 360 gets better props for reliability is a considerable plus (but that's OT as the OP is asking about the 355)

Like others, I had done this P vs F comparo (though not with the 355). Sure, go ask F-chat; don't take any one source as gospel. But anyone serious about this would also do well to look at parts prices, especially for we dirty-nailed DIYer wrenchers. That delta, alone, was, um, sobering.

True, most people don't drive ferraris often because they are afraid of losing $$$ because of miles. Don't be afraid to drive the 355. Driving the Porsche is such a regular part of the day. Driving the Ferrari is an event. Comparing the 355 to 993tt is fair but 993 is ludicrous. Get on ferrarichat.com ask the same question. I'm not sure where you are located. If you were near by I wouldn't mind giving you a ride. I'm sure you are far away from ND as most reasonable people are Like I said get on fchat I'm sure someone will be happy to give you a ride so you can experience it for yourself. When you are ready to replace your 993 I might buy it from you if it's a fair deal The 355 and a air cooled Porsche is part of every perfect garage.
I hate to tell you, but at the track the 993 is a perfect match for a 355. I know, bc I was in the 993 on the *** of a 355 the entire time. The 993TT, would leave the 355.

The 993TT is also twice the price of a similar 355. As for pricing, maybe a 2S or a 4S.

Interesting points, at least your credible since you actually own a 355 and 993.

I will say the 355 is a beautiful looking machine, even if it does have the pop lights, 80's kinda of style etc. I think it looks so compact, wide, low and aggressive, the proportions to me are just right. Similar to how many of us think the 993 is sized perfectly nice and compact compared to newer 911s.

Isn't the 360 kinda of like the 996 in the 911 world? Although faster, more reliable etc it just doesn't hold the same appeal.

I owned a 360 was not very exiting. Not as exiting as the 355.
I'm sorry but you being on the *** of a 355 means nothing. Maybe you were the better driver. Same driver the 355 will win.
I agree the with the 993tt will leave the 355 statement. The 993tt is faster. But as stated the 993tt is much more $$$$. Run the production numbers. My guess is the 355 will be worth as much as a 993tt one day.

I was going to add a yellow 355gts to the stable, but talked myself into an AM DB9 instead. Felt the racecar was too much for suburban traffic and looking back over five years of owning the AM I think it was the better choice in Chicago. I am truly thankful I didn't let the 993 go to make room, as it's still my favorite for puttering around town. Still admire the 355 like some of those old high maintenance girlfriends - better from afar.
