Default Durametric Pro doesn't connect to ECU - any idea why?

I have durametric pro and it's unable to identify ECU or Alarm.
It reads OBD2 ready flags, ABS, Airbag and Heater system. A cheap OBD2 reader also connects fine.

I tried it with engine running or just with ignition on.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Rufus had a problem connecting to the Bosch Hammer (which may be similar to the Durametric). I sent the ECU off to Todd Knighten at Protomotive. He found that the diagnostic section was totally messed up (had some Boxster stuff). He reprogrammed it, and it worked fine after that.

Just wondering, is your car a 95 or 96+? Have you tried downloading different software versions eg roll back the 5.x or get the most current 6.x?

My durametric enthusiast has a few limitations too. It won't see the alarm on my 96, but sees everything else. It wouldn't reset the airbag light. Also it won't activate abs/abd which would be really useful to clear out gunk during brake bleeding.

I hope I don't have to do that. Why would diagnostic section be messed up?

Mine is '98. Rolling back software version is something to try.

the RUF prob had 'adjustments' to the ECU which lead it to get corrupted, since it was modified.

in your case, this has got to be something on the end of the durametric, since you can get other OBD tools to connect to your car but not the one from the laptop. can you try this from another laptop? also make sure you're using a USB 2.0 port and not a 3.0 one

Before going backwards on software and losing upgrade capabilities...(depending on cable version)

Have you read the Durametrics instruction sheet for the software version you're using? My 993 is a 96 and I believe somewhere in the instructions it says if the ECU is not being read, try loading as a 964, instead of a 993...This worked like a champ for reading my ecu.

I have the older Durametric cable with the earlier PC Windows software. My experience is that the software does not always communicate with the engine module reliably. I find it helps to make sure the laptop used is running on house current and if I read one of the other modules first then the engine module seems to read most of the time. Sometime I get multiple erroneous codes from the module. It seems this is a reader error as when I reattempt connection the odd codes are no longer present. Making the Durametric read well has always been a challenge. To read the airbag module I must use the 964 menu as under the 993 menu it will not read, go figure?
