Default What's Original?

There is no accepted definition of originality. Every marque defines it differently. Here's an article I recently wrote comparing the judging of Corvettes, Porsches and Ferraris.

The judging of originality is very different for each marque.

Good article!

Its too bad that PCA doesn't judge cars like NCRS does; established standards instead of a "
curve".

I have never liked the idea of judging cars against one another. I think cars should be judged against a standard.

The whole idea of having a winner, and a loser, bothers me. If you judge against a standard you can have several "winners".

btw - It takes about 4 hours to judge a Corvette for the top award. The operational check is really tough. Every dash light and switch must work the way it did when the car left the plant.

Interesting read.

What I find quite annoying in the Porsche used-car market is the blatant misuse of the word "original" as it applies to paint. I can't remember how many times I've seen this descriptor used for 993s, when the pictures clearly tell a different story. Texture, hue, shading, etc. Other than a desire to land top dollar, I really don't understand why so many seller go to such lengths to deceive.

"Original paint", "no paintwork", etc. These terms are used so loosely in the used Porsche market that it's sad.
