Default I'm re-installing an original radio but the harness is gone :-( WTB

TIA

Whoever installed the Alpine unit cut the original harness and spliced it in, so the OEM plugs are long gone.

I'd like to install a CDR-210 and need the OEM plugs w/ pigtail, anyone have a set or can point me in the right direction so I might purchase them?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I did a search and came up blank, but vaguely remember someone else here needing to do the same thing.

Regards,

Al

Discount Car Stereo has the harness Al. It's on their web site but give them a ring just to be sure you get what you need. You can also reach out to Becker Auto Sound and SW Stereo.

If your Alpine unit has ISO sockets, going back to the CDR 210 could be plug and play.

Does your car have the factory HiFi option? LoFi is two speakers in the front door, HiFi is three speakers. If LoFi, the task is more simple.

If LoFi and not a plug and play replacement, I have a combined ISO A block and B block harness that I bought from Becker Autosound and didn't use. I would be willing to send it to you for the mailing cost and bank Karma points.

Here's an illustration of the back of the CDR 210 radio. Compare it to your Alpine. Undoing a previous installation has a nasty habit of taking-on a life of its own.

Quagmire is a good word for the mess.

Thank you for your offer, if I understand you correctly it would be what I am looking for.

The car has the hi-fi speaker option (not digital, no CD changer). It appears the Alpine installer ran four speaker wires, one to each door and two to the rear. Isn't the door tweeter fed from the lower crossover network? It appears new speaker wires have been fed to the door/back rather than using the OEM harness.

The plug on the Alpine unit is 16 pin and not the same as the Becker. My CDR-210 back is exactly as the one you have shown, so I'm looking for the wiring pigtail from the Becker, so I may re-connect to the OEM supplys. I will use the aftermarket speaker wire already installed.

Here is a pic of the mess.

If you think you have what I need then by all means send me a PM.

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Al

Well... that's a rat's nest.

Does that label/diagram on the top of the radio tell which wire goes where? If not, Google the model number of your Alpine and see if you can surface an original installation manual or instructions.

Four wires to the speakers? Each speaker level "out" from the radio should have two leads, a (+) and a (-) for a total of eight.

You have a HiFi-optioned car, which means that the factory-installed CDR-210 was functioning as a head unit with line level outputs going from socket C1 (see above diagram) to a Nokia power amp located under the passenger seat. Please confirm that your Alpine is wired for speaker level outputs rather than line level outputs. Also shine a flashlight under the passenger seat and see if you find a large black box in the middle of the floor pan. That's the Nokia power amp.

If you only have four speaker wires, then the Alpine is probably functioning as a head unit and that means that you need a mini-ISO C1 plug appropriately wired for the CDR-210. If you have eight wires to the speakers from the Alpine, it's probably stand-alone and you need a plug for the B socket.

The CDR-210 needs a DIN to ISO antenna adapter to accept the lead from the factory antenna. Does your Alpine have that also?

I'll PM you this evening with a photo of the harness and an extra antenna adapter, as well as postage cost.

I recently "back-dated" my car to the CDR-220. The wiring harness and the antenna adapter are available for much less (total cost ~$10) than the inflated prices charged by the usual suspects:

Make sure the other ends of the wires are still wired as original. Also may I ask why you are back dating the audio?

Andy, there are a few reasons why I'm installing an original.

1. Ease and safety- The CDR/CR units are easy for me to operate w/o my eye glasses on. This is most important.

2. Looks - I do not like the dancing light show, the 35 small buttons, or the chrome bezel of the Alpine unit upon an otherwise black dash.

3 Redundancy - Having the same unit in multiple cars keeps it simple.

Regards,

Al
