Default Virgin 993 4S Owner ( UK )

Hi all. Just dipped my toe big time into the heady world of Porsche ownership. Almost did it last year with a 964 3.6 Turbo but £38K seemed a tad high. Lovely car though.

However, my dream car was the 993 Turbo so the 4S is as close as you can get and still have a marriage. I also went LHR ( what is all the fuss about ? took me all of,,,,,oh,,, 100miles to get fairly happy ) as my funds would't stretch to the RHD.

There's a few cosmetic things to make me happy ( isn't there always ) but it just needs some TLC mainly inside but outside as well, Zymol Starter kit on order. and I guess wait for the 68C temp to use the products.

I've already got the details from here to adjust my handbrake as it doesn't actually work.

For the UK people on here. Any recommended service centers in the Norfolk ( I'm near Norwich )/Camb area ?

Many thanks

p.s. once I've read the FAQ's I'll upload the dealer pic of the car or mine when I get one

Hi John

I would post this question re. service recomendations on the 964 board as there are quite a few guys from Cambs/Norfolk/Suffolk.

I know of a couple of Norfolk P specialists but don't know if they are any good!

hi John,

Welcome to Rennlist and Porsche ownership

I use Porsche Colchester who are great. Very knowledegable and enthusiastic about 993's.

If you're based in Norfolk, you may want to look out for my next drive (probably using a similar route to last time where we had a good mix of 993's and Z3's). I'll try and get it organised late October...

John

surely you didn't buy the car with a handbrake that didn't work??

Either way, hope it all goes well. A coupl eof 964 drivers (Dove & Piers) are from that neck of the woods. Try MCP Motorsports for advice on local independents.

Hello, congrats on your purchase! Any pics?

www.911uk.com for more specific advice on which specialists to use, but the guys on the 964 board will probably give you all the info you need.

noony,

shameless 911uk promotion

John,

if you've got a garage don't worry about the temp, warm it up by putting the car in after long run! What about getting the concours, desting and carbon sampler kit, much better value!

Thumbs up

Hi John,

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your car. I can very strongly recommend Autostrasse who are in Coggeshall, Essex. When I lived in Essex I always used them after running foul of the OPC at Colchester who had a very bad reputation at the time. It's well worth the drive as Ken and Alan have seen it all before and will tell you what needs to be done and not what is required to make your car brand new again. Plus they know what side the wheels go on ; which way round uni-directional tyres go and how to handle oil pipe replacement properly .

Have fun.

Cheers,

David

Thanks David and everyone for their advice. I'll give Autostrasse a bell when its time. BTW, has anyone heard of some place up north ( I think Lancs ? ) that will come and pic the car up on a loader service it and return ? I know there is a place as I spoke to a guy in Kent about a year ago who used them for his 964 3.6 T that I was interested in at the time. The cost didn't seem that much or didn't stand out compared to a normal OPC service charge and he was a very very careful owner. If this rings a bell with anyone would be interested.

Thanks

Hi John,

I forgot to give you the number for Autostrasse. It's 01376 562922.

Please say hi from me if you contact them.

Cheers,

David
