hi ksimpson
o/t. I m from Dublin and live in London. How is 993 ownership in Ireland treating you from an insurance, service, road tax, resale demand point of view.
My reason for asking is that i dont use my 993 enough in London and am considering leaving it at my house in Ireland for the times I am there.
Thanks

A.J.- I heard that all the badges were made with a rise in them and that since that is where we are supposed to push the boot closed from they will eventually become concave. Maybe just an old engineers wife tale -

Those of you who have changed the hood badge, do you have any tips on making the job easier?
Looks like the speed nuts are in a hard to reach place. Needle nose pliers maybe?
TIA

I used socket wrench with the extension to unscrew the 2 nuts from under through the holes. There is a good chance that the nuts will just turn but not coming off. In that case, use a flat screw driver or something similar, stickk it between the badge and hood and lightly lift the badge up and at the same time uncrew the nuts. They should come off easily. Don't scratch the hood.
Edit: The above description is for taking the old badge off.

No just a socket wrench, I think I used a 8mm. Heat the new rubber gasket under hot water to get the edges to stretch around the badge easier. Don't tighten the nuts too much,

I changed my hood badge using a small plug socket
I think it was a 10mm long socket with a small rachet a simple job that took 5 min
I think you might have more leaverage with a socket than a long pliers

road tax in ireland is around 1400 euro
my insurance is 2300 euro 29 with full clean licance
VRT when I imported the car from northern ireland
was 10500 euro and it was fire damaged so it would have been more in perfect cond
I think you should keep the car regestered in england tax and insurance are a rip off in this
