Default OldGuy Update #5

Toto you're not in Kansas anymore!! My TT is though.
I called intercity today and the truck is in Kansas
ETA Ridgecrest California is 12 noon MONDAY. I am taking the
rest of the day off to clean that last parts of my garage.
I am taking Monday off to await the car. its getting tough
to sleep. This is like 20 Christmas's wrapped up into
one. Its getting to the point where when I am driving
and someone passes my in my 03 300 hp F150 I look
at 'em and say you're not going to have OldGuy to kick
around anymore come Monday!! 3 more days. 64 hours
31 minutes and 22 seconds.

Ridgecrest? Are you a long time resident?
Ever hear of a cat named Charles "Doug" Rice? Apparently he gained some local fame in your area by falling down a mineshaft full of rattlesnakes many years ago.

I knew Doug back in the 80's but we lost touch.

Best of luck with your new vehicle!

Get your camera ready for taking pictures unloading from the truck, and the first pics of the car in the driveway....

Paul,

Scott Mellor & I want to meet you (and your car) at Vasquez Rocks. Should be a great photo backdrop. We'll have three TTs together, unless some other guys want to join in. Maybe Saturday 9/27? Early? Scott?

Steve I was kinda thinking of going to Mammoth
But have not talk to the spousal unit about it.
If I dont- I have to go to bakersfield for my oldests
soccer game- BUT I could go down 14 and then
back up I5 that would be ashame if I had to
drive another couple hours in my new car!!
If I go to Mammoth how bout the 5th of OCT!!
Where is Vasquez rocks?

OldGuy,
I think old Doug was riding a dirt bike when he took his trip down the mineshaft, must have been early 70's...I had a few narrow misses with mineshafts out in the Mojave myself. Try to resist the urge to get yourself in the newspaper by putting your TT down one of those holes!

The Mammoth area is certainly beautiful, but I never found any roads around there that I liked, how is 178 to Bakersfield?

178 is curvy past Isabella but I have not been past Kernville on that
road in a long time. My oldest son gets carsick and I am supposed
to deliver him to the soccer fields able to play so I go down 14 to
58 and over to Bakersfield. THe soccer fields are right off 178 too.
I wont go in the dirt in the TT but I have been back there on my
mountain bike and my YZ250 many times

Hey don't forget the third musketeer. Steve, I'll join you subject to scheduling. Sundays are better for me, but I'll be out of town on 10/4 and 5. Hope I can join you.

I will-I got the camera heated up to full battery power. I put a
roast on yesterday for the trucker and his wife incase they came
early but its more like beef jerky now. Oh well. I may have some
time to do this too. The title is not here yet so I may have to
just look at if for a day. The title is being FedExed to me Tues.

Old Guy,

Just a little piece of CA DMV info. Without a temporary tag from the DMV ($15) if you are pulled over typically you will get a ticket. Doesn't matter if you have the title, etc, the car is not registered to drive on the rode. I had to pick mine up in Vegas and drive back to the bay area (I could not wait until the drivers made it up here, I wanted the car NOW...). Since it had no plates on it, I found out about the CA registration requirements. Now since I did get the temporary registration, I was guaranteed not to get pulled over.

Doubt anything will happen if you take to straight to get it smogged and then to the DMV. Oh, and be prepared to write a check equivalent to a down payment on a house in other parts of the country. 8% sales tax, and $900ish dollars 1st year registration. I would also HURRY and register as of Oct 1, it'll cost you $2,700ish to register the car.

So in the 2 minutes it took to read this meassage, you are two minutes closer to getting your car

Paul,

You're up and typing at 7:05am? On a Saturday? You got the ******* really bad. Good luck on Monday!

Vasquez Rocks is a fantastic rock formation just off the 14 near Acton. That's about half way between you and us. I don't know about having Lee come along... two midnight blue cars may be too much! Just kidding, of course Lee... love to see you again.

All we need is the date. Come on you guys... get your priotities starightened out. Cancel all appts.

Bob, I budgeted for the tax and License and I am all over the
Oct 1 thing believe you me! And Ridgecrest is kind a small, the
smog station is 1/4 mile from my house and the DMV is 3 blocks.
Wait a minute-Everything is 1/4 mile from my house!
it would be incredibly bad luck to get pulled over in that distance.
on the flip side, I have coached most of the cops/CHP/Sheriffs
kids in one sport or another so you think I would get a break!

Steve I am going to wait till this afternoon to decide on next
week. If my boy plays well I will stay here, if they get their butts
kicked I'll go to Mammoth. I could meet you guys real early like
7 But I would have to leave to get back by 11. So I can go to
bakersfield for the soccer game. Probably would not be hard to
get up early next Sat! Lee Love to see you up here!
Yea Steve I got it bad!!

I'm in.
I'll even wash my car so as not to offend Steve's delicate sensibilities.
