Inherited a 95 993, started it up and its making a loud ticking noise?
Long story short my dad passed in April from cancer. He had a 95 Cab that he bought a few years ago. He didn't drive it much in his later days. The car has been sitting i would like to say 9 months.
I had to move it the other day to get another car out of the garage it was stored at.
When it started up it has a very loud ticking noise coming from the engine. It did have oil and oil pressure. I did not run the engine longer that 1 minute.
Is there something common to look for? do i just need to let the engine run so the lifters get oil to them? should i take it to a shop?
Also what type of oil should i add?, it was at the min, I remember him saying he used Brad Penn oil, but i dont know what weight.
thanks for any help.

Sorry about your father. Post your location, so someone can recommend a good indy shop for you.
Don't restart the car for a while, till you start getting some advice here, or flat bedded to a shop.
Brad Penn oil 20W50 is a good choice. You can't read the oil level on the car unless the oil is hot-hot, idling, and level. So, you don't want to add oil, and overfill. Less is best.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I have a 95 and I will say that if I dont start it for a while I get a clicking sound for a few mins while it warms up. I would say change the oil and fluids if you are getting close to a year with it sitting though

RIP for your Dad
If you ran your engine for 1 min already, re-run your engine. no problem.
It is 100% the hydraulic lifters.
If the sound stays after you run it again for a couple of minutes, let us know,
For a membership here, I could send you the lifters you need, free.
Usually, we do this with members, so I'll stick to this habit.
and welcome
ps: top the reservoir with fresh gas, and all is good.

Lots of good advice here, already. My condolences to you and the family on losing your dad. I think you will find no shortage of folks here, even locally, to help you out. Be well.
