Post Ebay may actually sell this C4S

My experience on the Bay, is that no one ever hits the reserve, and transactions are usually done after the fact between the high bidder and the seller. Here's one that actually met reserve and should sell today.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10156&item=1872796197&rd=1" target="_blank">1996 C4S</a>

Does this seem like a good price at this point? I just bought a black/black a month ago for $47,000 in pristine condition that I thought was a great deal. Maybe someone will get an even better one.

Seems to be a nice car and if the garage is any indication....pretty clean owner.

He doesn't say what options other than upgraded stereo. A lot of people don't take options into account when looking at prices. Motorsound, aluminum pkg, oval tips, leather, rear wiper, 6 cd etc. they all add up on the Original purchase and should be taken into consideration when looking at the final number.

If my memory serves me you were looking for a long time and found a very nice c4s for a good price.
I had someone offer me 42 for mine. Although it has 70k miles, I have every record, tons of options and the engine was completely gone over (under warranty) to remove carbon buildup from PO. I wouldn't sell my car for under 45k!

IMO, there is nothing out there better than a 993 for the money..new or used.
Someimes knowing what you have is more comforting than what you don't have. Can you find something "cheaper" than your car...sure. I look all the time and see what the market is doing with all P-cars (as I am sure most of us on this board do).
In the initial stages of ownership especially, I kept finding cars that on the surface seemed as nice as mine with less miles etc. ....it drove me crazy. After 6 months I have just accepted the fact that there will always be "deals"!

Yep - I did in fact find what I was looking for. I bought a '96 C4S that was really fairly basic (as in, not many options.) It has dual power seats (8-way), motorsound, Leather seats (don't they all?) and a premium sound system including 6-disc changer. 39,500 miles when I picked it up. All service records from day one. Internally - virtually flawless. Cars with 2,000 miles have more wear than this one does. Externally - almost flawless except for stone chips on the front end (and I don't know how those are ever avoided without a bra).

I love it. Unfortunately, it's snowing in INdy today, and the car may not see much road time until March. That's ok - there's lots of Rennlist and Excellence magazine to read between now and then.

You're right - I thought I got an awesome deal (and I probably didn't do too bad actually). Apparently the high 40's is where these are at right now. I'm not sure how dealers are getting anything over 50k unless the cars are filled with carbon fiber, etc.

Just before I bought my C4, sombody on this board (Silver Bullet mabye?) gave me a great piece of advice (paraphrasing here):

"Buy your car, be happy with your decision, and don't look through the want ads, ebaymotors, or hemmings, because you'll always find a better deal."

I did peek just once at Wayne Gretzky's Cab on ebay... but the color was all wrong.

Looks good but why no photos of the front of the car? ....

I kept seeing "bargains" after I got my car, especially with lower mileage as mine has 79,000 on the clock. I'm very happy with my car which drove better than any of the 35,000 mile examples that I looked at and had no "usual" faults in its inspection so I have given up worrying about other cars. You don't get something for nothing!

Cheers,

David

I tested that car months ago and it was indeed very nice. The seller was meticulous about everything: it was Porsche Certified from one of more honest dealers in our region when he purchased; I wasn't ready or would have jumped. Price has softened from the ask of about 51 when I drove...what else is new.

Stinky - I think I recall seeing that advice actually.

Easier said than done. Actually - I think someone's going to be happy with their new p-car in the upper 40's. As for me - I paid $1,000 more than that, but got black on black which, although common, is my ultimate color combo pick. I'd easily pay an extra grand (or more) for the black interior I have.

Of course someone else obviously will love that tan/beige interior just as much as I love mine. Hopefully the winner will find his/her way to Rennlist.

I have a black on cashmere coupe. Of course, mine's 7 years older. And it has 10,000 more miles (bought it with 43K). I used to love black on black. Now the black on cashmere is it for me. If I could flip the 89 and grab this one, I would -- But I'd draw up a contract stating that it would have to pass a ppi. Is everything on Ebay "as is?"

JGordon - "as is, where is" seems to be SOP on EBay. I'm sure this guy would let you do a PPI; it was a nice ride - see my msg above.

It went for $46,200. I guess that's actually a pretty good price for a sight unseen transaction. Given that it was a pure auction setting, I'd think that probably represents the current floor on C4S pricing.
