Best color to paint garage interior? Soon to be 993 owner!
I just found out that an inheritance we'll be receiving in 2-4 months will be twice what we thought it would be, and now my wife is allowing me to sell my semi-mint 88 911 Coupe, Venetian Blue, 71k miles that I love dearly and buy a Polar Silver (is this a better color than Artic Silver?) with Black interior 97 C4S. Yeahhh! I just have to let her upgrade her diamond ring to a larger one (it's 1.35 carats now and she wants a 2 carat thingie or larger ... ughhh) and the deal is sealed. Got to loves them women.
First course of business is repainting our garage interior - it's been a dinghy blueish grey for 15 years and is fading and messed up a bit at spots. We just had the entire interior of the house painted, so I want to have this done too. I was thinking of a bright white or some garage appropriate color of white or maybe a brighter grey. Any advice? Don't want it to to be TOO bright, but I want to be able to show off the cars nicely

On a 993 note, I was so revved up when I found out I can finally after 5 years upgrade my car to my dream car, I could barely sleep. Visions of 96-98 C4S's danced around in my head all night. I was hoping to find one in the mid 40's if I get lucky. I'll be looking for one in 2-4 months. Polar Silver or Arena Red... I was thinking Arena Red was a bit too showy for my newer conservative tastes so I better stick with the easy to clean, inside and out, Silver with Black car. Now I NEED to finally drive one of these beasts to make sure this is the car for me. Widebodies have finally grown on me, when at first I found them to be a bit too outlandish. I used to prefer the simplicity of the narrow body. MUST find one to drive soon, at a local dealer.

I've been thinking about painting the walls in my garage as well (and the floor w. epoxy, eventually). I think, unless someone chimes in w. a better idea, that I'm just going to go w. a pretty bright, semi-gloss white latex. Something to help amplify the lighting when I'm out working on the cars.

I agree. I had my garage repainted semi-gloss white and the difference in lighting is terrific.
Steve, if you're painting you should also check out having the floor painted/epoxied or whatever. It makes a huge difference. I used a company called "Stardust" (no affiliation) that did a paint job that looks just like tile only it's about one third the cost and less upkeep.

Great ideas! Our garage floor WAS painted grey 14 years ago, but now it's mostly come off. How much should I expect this company to charge to paint the garage floor? Is it really that important to paint the floor? Epoxy sounds quite expensive. I don't really work on my cars other than to detail them.
The floors now are basically cement without hardly any paint left. I live in the Silver Spring MD area. Is there a place like that that does these floors in my area? Our painter is only charging me $110 to paint the garage interior minus the floor.
I'm getting very psyched now. Time to frame my 911 posters!

Having worked in Formula One for the past good few years, it is a definate that every team paints the garage floor of the pits as the first thing they do. Although teams use different paint manufacture, most people go for a bright grey colour, a fairly light one obviously. I once asked the question, and it was said that grey helped keep the floor a lot cleaner than white, which shows every mark, and the fact that grey allows black to be seen easier, so when you lose or drop that very small nut, bolt or washer, youhave a greater chance of seeing it or better still, differentiating it from regular dirt, dust etc. F1 has big budgets so I always reckoned that if they thought it was right, so would I. Go for grey, its easier to see and will look a lot better in a few years than white. Andy

Gee, Polar silver in a painted garage? This could be you, Stever! Ha! 
I have lots of pics of my "sanctuary" posted at the link below. I went with a very light grey wall, and a darker grey floor and foundation. Avoid stark white. It gets too dirty and is hard on the eyes.

You know, I was toying w. the idea of paying extra for that granite look-alike paint on the floor. That would be a nightmare to find dropped items!!

I decided NOT to do the garage floor because of the nightmares I have heard about preparation etc. Peeling and lifting paint on hot tires if things aren't prepped pefectly. Prepping meant acid etching and I was not willing to give up my front yard landscaping with the chemical run-off that would be produced.
Any thoughts or success stories out there?

AvsFan, I painted my garage floor with the Griot's Floor Paint and have been very pleased with the results. The paint has lifted a bit where the tires rest, but all it takes is some touching up every 6 months or so. Not a big deal IMO because it really dresses things up and makes clean up very easy.

Here's mine. Very light grey walls with Semi Gloss so they're easy to clean and slightly darker grey floor done with Benjamin Moore Commercial Epoxy. I'm so happy with it that I'm going to add 14 more feet and another door so there's room for a 993!

We built a 4 car earlier this year. It's more of showroom than a garage. I don't drive any of the cars I park in it when it rains so it stays pretty clean. I went with off white walls & tan epoxy & have been very happy. I used dense foam runners to park the cars on which avoids the peeling issue completely. It's not cheap @ $ 2.50 a linear foot but it's worth it in the long run. Home Depot sells it for business use to make it easier being on your feet for extended periods of time. Works great for Porsche feet too
