Default E Brake after spirited driving?

The PO of my car told me to just keep the car in gear and do NOT put the
e-brake on after a spirited drive. Is there any truth / half truth to this?

Man I love my car!

Totally true.

If you set the e brake, you can hard spot your brakes.

Coast to a stop if you can so that the pistons aren't left against the disc.

If coming off the track that is a good rule to follow. If it is around town stuff I am not sure it would make a real difference, but it is probably a prudent thing to do. The E-brake is inside the rotor (not the caliper)

Greg

I had been told to be careful on both, e brakes and caliper pistons, after track use.

Of course I've observed that you know much more about brakes than me.

Yes I do, unfortunately. Actually got a new cologne the other day, Motul something or other. Great stuff and very good boiling points.

Unless you leave your car with a brick on the brake pedal, what difference would this make?

The pads touch the discs all the time. There's nothing that "retracts" the pistons into the caliper.

as I understand it, it's the amount of residual pressure on the pistons. I always took the experienced races word for it. ymmv

Greg- are you saying that the e-brake on 993s is the same as 80's Carerras, where there's a little drum brake inside the rotor? In my 1986, I saw absolutely no wisdom in avoiding the e-brake after doing laps. If it's the same on a 993 I think I'll continue to ignore the advice about avoiding the e-brake.

I'm with Eric86Red911,

Unlike "normal" driving, after your disks are really, really hot after lapping a race track. Setting a normal e-brake transfers extra heat from the disk to the already very hot pads and caliper, and also makes the disk cool more unevenly than would usually be the case. These two things may potentially lead to Bad Stuff happening.

With inner drum brakes for the e-brake, 911s are probably immune to this.

But it probably wouldn't hurt to leave the e-brake off, just in case.

BTW, Eric. You need a new name, bro!
