Default Strut tower bar recommendations

I'm in the market for one and have not really seen any conclusive recommendations for one after searching previous posts. So I figured I would drop the question and ask the knowledgable folk on Rennlist for guidance...

TIA

You can't go wrong with the factory aluminum unit. That's what I have.

For the little difference in money stay with the factory part.

Gert has them:

Factory one here too. See if you can get a club discount from your dealer if you are a PCA member

I have the BK unit. They are about $200 new, or $100 on ebay.

They all do the same thing, so you don't need to spend a ton of money on it. Getting the CF version is going waay overboard, imho.

I have the factory one. Be careful if you ever plan to install camber plates. Many of the less expensive strut bars will not work.

I bought my factory strut brace with my $100 off PCA discount. Seems to work fine. Some here have questioned the stiffness/quality of the Rennline brace. Try a search; lots 'o info.

I too have a Brey Krause (stainless steel). Very pleased with it. They may all "do the same thing," but they may not all do it as well. I found one of the cheaper bars to be less rigid & replaced it w/the BK. The AJ-USA bar has pleased a number of discriminating Rennlisters.

Do a search ("strut bar" or "strut brace") - many prior threads.

BTW, don't overtighten the mounting bolts.

I have the AJ-Usa bar, I'm very happy with it. I believe it is a clone of the Cup car bar. It is very sold and well built, no deflection at all.

As Dan has mentioned, you can watch many of the cheap bars flex if you pull on them, which defeats the purpose.

I use a Weltmeister bar which is nice and you need not cut the carpet.

Pulling on a strut brace bar would not replicate the forces seen by this device in use. The bar will normally see compression forces that are unlike you would see just pulling on the bar to see if it deflects.

That said, the AJ-USA bar feels rock solid and looks good in my car. Price can be right too. Last xmas they had a special on it for Rennlisters for $133.

Chip, I agree that the compression force is different, but since the forces will always have a slight radial component due to the fact that the bar can never be perfectly in line with the force vector, I still think a bar that flexes if you pull on it will provide less value. The actual movement of the towers in relation to each other is maybe a few millimeters or fractions thereof, so even a very minor flex could defeat the purpose. (if any, but that's another post.)

I do agree that the most significant value is ornamental.
