Front Hood Compartment Light Stays On?????
For some reason my front hood compartment light stays on even when the hood is closed, confirmed by pushing down latch with hood open.
More surprisingly to me it stays on even when the plug connector in the photo attached is disconnected and that is with the hood open.
The battery, an Optima, is not run down, but it did register 12.53 volts which I would consider low. To keep the battery from running down I disconnected it. Then just to see what would happen I reconnected it. Well, surprise now the light goes off when the plug is disconnected. It also goes off when the hood latch is closed. In other words it function properly.
What's going on here? I never had any kind of check engine light or any other indication.

The trunk light & interior (door) light switching is connected. Did you happen to have a door open (or was it w/in the light shut-off delay period) when you did your checking? If so, the trunk light would stay on independent of its latch switch position. I.e., interior lights on = trunk light on & vice versa.

I had this same problem. I think (if memory serves me correctly) there is a relay that controls the interior lights and hood light. Putting the interior light in the flat position (comes on when the door is open and out with the door shut), does the light stay on when you close the hood latch?
There is a relay box underneath the passenger seat that may be stuck. On my car, it was caused by a battery that was near 12 Volts because a balky alternator. Once the alternator was replaced, the battery was at 13+ Volts which seems to be able to keep the relay from sticking.
