What to do - Sellers girlfriend dented car
Guys, I finished having the 97 PPI'ed yesterday and what was wrong was fixed. Owner has a CarMax MaxCare extended transferable warranty. Good till '06 or 50K miles. Car has 21K miles on it. Reeves in Tampa said everything looked great.
However, just got an email that the sellers girlfriend just backed the car into the garage door. Aaarrrggghhh!!! Looks like he's going to trade it in now.
What are your suggestions since I paid for the PPI and it doesn't look like I get the car now?
Walk away and don't worry about the $200?

I don't understand the part about the owner no longer being willing to sell it because it's dented. Or was it your decision not to buy it after it was dented? Backing into the garage door doesn't sound like it would cause much damage; maybe a new bumper? If I really wanted the car, a small repair (and a small purchase price adjustment) probably wouldn't make me change my mind. You already have the green light from the PPI. But if he's still willing to sell, but you no longer want the car, I guess you're out $200 for the PPI.

Wasn't my choice. He said he was trading it in. Sounds like it's not just a little ding. He's in Tampa FL and I'm in Phoenix so I can't tell what the damage really is. Sigh

its not like he is getting more for it as a trade in, especially with needing bodywork. I would ask for pics and a valid reason why he wont sell it you...

I'ld still be willing to buy it I guess, but at this point only if a rennlister were willing to check it out. Not sure if anyone in the Tampa area has the time and would be willing to give me their impression of the car.

Sounds fishy to me. Looks like the guy owes you $200 - which you'll probably never see. Time to move on.

Speaking of garage door incidents, I came about 3 inches away from closing my garage door down on my TT when I first bought it. Fortunately, nothing happened, but I almost had a heart attack!
I now park well into the garage.

Whilst this has drifted onto the topic of garage incidents...
A friend has a 968 CS. It was garaged for a few weeks at his home, unused, so he had it hooked up to a battery-conditioner.
One morning, he hops in, opens the electric garage door and drives away - completely forgetting the 'hooked-up' battery.
As the battery-conditioner wrenched itself free of the car, it pulled the electrical socket from the garage wall, shorted the electrics for the house and...
down came the garage door (fast)
right onto the roof of his car!
Glad it's not just me that has that kind of luck!

Not to be too cynical, but my bet is that he's found another buyer, at a higher price, and that the girlfriend/garage door thing is an outright lie.
Unfortunately, the world is full of such individuals. I'd write off the $200 and just walk. Life's too short.

I'd bet money that there was no garage door incident... he is just trying to get rid of you.
I wouldn't suggest pressuring him to sell you the car, because if he is lying you don't want the car, and if he isn't lying you still don't want the car.
Tell him he owes you $200 for the PPI. I agree that he may or may not pay you, but it is worth a try.
