Red face Wounded 993

I have just had the unthinkable happen. A pickup truck backed into the front of my 95 993. After cleanup it was apparent that only a small smile was put in the bumper; no paint damage. At first I thought I could life with it and put it in the garage. After looking at it for several days I could not stand it and took it to a great body shop thinking the smile could be "pulled out". Wrong! The shop owner said he could but it still would not look good and he quaoted me a new factory front bumper for $1700. Has anyone had similar small damage? What did you do?

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I would put a bra on the front for now, and if you do get a new bumper, use the bra as well to protect the new one from road debris.

I could not stand to have it look less than perfect. I bought new bumper covers from Gert and had everything restored (mine was damaged front and back). I found Gert's prices to be cheaper than the local body shops. It was simply a matter of finding a quality shop to do the painting and install with bumper covers I supplied.

Sounds like a great excuse to finally get the euro bumper without the bumperettes!

My 95 993 suffered a similar fate. Used a hair dryer to heat the area...popped back out with minimal cosmetic blemish. Might be worth a try and sounds a lot cheaper than the alternatives.
Good luck

I also have a 95 polar silver with Blue Leather (we have to stick together).

I recently put a GT2 front splitter on my car and did fairly extensive research into what my other options were.

The price your were quoted sounds very high -(Genuine Porsche front PU's in the UK are in the region of 3-400 pounds. The turbo variant can be had for 450 or so. Many companies advertise in 911 & Porsche World) -Did the price include paint and fitting?

For the overall service Tom W's right - you can't beat Gert.

Regards

Mike

listen to the guys about heating the area gradually with a blowdryer and you may get lucky easy & fast. Get you hand behind the bumper cover to help move it out.

Not seeing the damage....if it isnt ripped or hurt too bad its fixable.... but might still needs paint. No big deal.

Good bodyshops 100% have polyurethane bumper cover repair kits! They can 100% fix your bumper and then you can fill in the bumper license plate holes and fill in those bumperettes too and paint the thing too. I did all 3 for $400 completely repainted.

The follwing year I removed the rear bumperettes and fill in those nasty holes too and repainted for another $400. All of this alot cheaper and easier than you think.

That bodyshop just wanted to soak you for a new bumper and save that old one for a future repair job. best regards
