OT: Test drove Volvo V70R
Way off topic, but of interest to some of you 993 owners I would think.
Test drove the Volvo V70R. For info, this is one fast swede bread van- 300bhp, 6 speed manual, 0-63 in 5.7 seconds, full time 4 wd, brembo discs, 18" rims, pirelli p zero rosso's.
Round corners, this was an amazing machine given its dimensions and size, slight understeer push moving to a nice controllable oversteer as you lift off, nothing dramatic, steering starts to get nice and weighty above 50mph, brake pedal feel is dismal but brakes bite big time. No way to heel and toe, the pedal positioning sucks.
Ran alongside a Maserati 4200, whilst i couldnt take him (the sales man was starting to get nervous), we definitely had fun with him....he must have been wondering what on earth a volvo was doing trying to tailgate him at above 100mph!
Conclusion....I am now in the painful process of convincing my wife to change the Saab 9-5 for the Volvo V70R. I would love to take this puppy to a Porsche club track day and see what the other guys would think!!!

And Saabs have a wealth of performance enhancing modifications available for them, against which these cars truly respond extremely well to. Incidentally, this is my second Saab, the first was a 9-3 (previous generation hatch).

Harold,
Thanks fo the review! I have been waiting with baited breath for this car to come out. For me, it is stunning: beautiful with a touch of brawniness. And the wagon portion is essential for us with kidlets. IMO it's far more practical and sporty than most SUVs (isn't it wild that you can say "sporty" when talking Volvos). Thanks for the contribution.

Harold, I've been thinking ( almost ) the same thing. I've been looking around for an 850R wagon in red. It's been another one of my dream cars. A worthy predecessor to the V70R!
