Question Fuel Filter Question

While my car was in the shop getting the door check strap fixed under goodwill, I asked the dealer to change my fuel filters and plugs (I know - what a wimp, aye? All I can say is that the garage floor is mighty cold this time of year ).

They stated that the 993TT has only a single fuel filter at the rear. At the time, I wasn't sure, but I vaguely recalled reading about two filters.

Sure enough, my ALLDATA sheets list a front filter 928-20108104 in addition to the rear filter 928-11025304. This front filter is located at the left base of the fuel tank in the trunk.

Common sense would suggest that the front filter would do the lion's share of the filtering, since it is upstream. Has anyone changed this front filter? From the diagram, it looks like a good recipe for gas to come flooding out into the trunk. Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks for the help!

Also, does anyone know how to capture an image from the PET Porsche CD so that it can be posted here for others to see? I can print the diagrams, but don't know how to copy and paste them.

Hi Doc:

There are indeed 2 fuel filters on your car. The front one is really to keep the gak and large objects from the pump input & the main filter. This helps prevent any fuel starvation issues and I always change them both. The very last thing a Turbo motor needs is fuel pressure and volume fluctuations.

I tend to go overboard about things like this,...

Thanks, Steve. As always, I appreciate the manner in which you share your wisdom and experience.

Can you move your shop a bit closer to Lexington?

LOL,.....my pleasure, anytime. That's what I'm here for,.....

I've received quite a number of requests to open branch offices in many states, now,..

The tough part is finding the kinds of people we hire. You know the old saying, "If it was easy, then anyone could do it,.. ))

Shoot, I was thinking about making a pilgrimage to Portland for a long weekend - maybe Steve'd let me sweep the floor or something while I try to soak up some competence to bring back to Houston with me...
