Post 993 in dash CD, who's got one?

I may need to locate a stock in dash Cd player. The 97 c2s I'm looking at has a stock tape deck. Maybe all i need is a changer in the trunk? Are these cars pre wired? Should i just p/u a pioneer or alpine - Basic? Not good for concours... This car is not a HI fi system either. I may go big one day. How much is a stock system.
What about traffic pro? Adaptable to 993's?
What about my trickle charger from my soon to be traded in 996. Plugs into lighter. Will it work in the 993 (for winter storage). P.s. I'm driving this baby in the snow BLIZZAK.
It's true. I'm dropping the 996 to go back...993. I'll miss the interior ergonomics and the HVAC. Also the liquid engine whine reminds me of blower motor. However I dig the low - loud roar of air cool. What do you think, my mechanic says he can drill holes in the air box to create motor sound. Fact or fiction? Call me crazy but I'm also goin Tip. I'm looking forward to taking a brake from clutch work.
Thanks, Deano

If you take the time to search the archives you'll find (more detailed) answers to most of your questions. That said:

-Car is not prewired for trunk mounted CD changer.
-Unless you go w/the inferior FM units which play through the antenna, the only changers compatible w/the Becker CR210 (which I assume is the unit in the car) are Becker or, with an EPROM change to the radio, Sony.
-You can upgrade the oem system to better than the Porsche HiFi for less than converting to the HiFi.
-Traffic Pro works fine in a 993 - read John Felker's detailed posts and/or go to his website. He's the board TP guru.
-Trickle charger should work fine - or as fine as it did w/the 996.
-My daily driver RWD goes anywhere I want in the snow on speed rated Dunlop Winter Sports that also do well in the dry.
-The 993 HVAC works just fine.
-Motorsound includes not just a drilled airbox, but throatier exhaust as well. So, get a set of RSR mufflers to go w/the holes.
-OK, you're crazy - just kidding
-Good luck with your upgrade to a 993 <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

The 1997 came with a CR-210 (tape) or CDR-210 CD

The '95s has the Alpine units

The Traffic Pro (TP) is an easy installation in a 1997, which has the Speed dependent volume. Simple steps. Remove current radio and unplug, Pull the HVAC unit out and tap the blue/grey wire run to the TP (Reverse signal), diassemble the rear deck shelf and place GPS antenna on metal under it. Run wire behind trim on the passenger side. under thresshold and to the TP. Plug all into the TP , reinstall the HVAC, rear and side trims, and push the TP into the dash..

My car came with a CR-210, I bought a CDR-210 on ebay for 288.00, and sold my CR-210 on ebay for 100.00. I wanted to keep the stock look, but I may have made a mistake, I am thinking to go custom one of these days.

Another source is becker, they can sell you a unit for 400.00, just send them an e-mail. The url is:
<a href="http://www.beckerautosound.com/" target="_blank">Becker NA</a>

BTW, the two units were plug an play, change took 5 minutes!

Do you need the special “radio removal tool” or is there something more common that will work just fine?

thanks

You mean like this one:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1379110953&rd=1" target="_blank">CDR-210</a>

The seller is an incredibly honest guy that drives the most phenomenal car. He's not bad looking either.

Tempting...from the owner of a P.O.S. cassette deck in the "hi-fi" package.

Felker-you must have large feet cause it looks very cramp down there. How do you like the Traffic Pro? Does the navigation part works well? Regards. Mike
