Help...seat cable part number
Why do I always seem to get into these problems?
I (and my parts guy) are wrestling with a real bear of a problem. I have a 96 993 Targa with Sport Seats (the ones with the hard shell backs).
One of the pair of cables that allow the seat to hinge forward for access to the rear seat is broken (came like that from the PO...I allowed for it in the price). Okay, no problem, just order a new cable. Right.
I:
- had the PO's mechanic send me a replacement cable as part of the deal. The cable appeared to have the correct part number as in PET but it is about 6" too long. It does not look like the cable in the PET drawing for that seat.
- had my local parts guy order the cable. Got the same "wrong cable"
- had my parts guy phone the Porsche shipping depot to see if they have switched the parts and to confirm the part number. They confirm, ship another that is "shorter" and again its still the wrong part.
The part number we are using is 928 521 093 02. The cable does not even look like the PET diagram ; but the cable looks like one on another seat (can't remember which one).
My set in PET is Illustration 807-22, SG07, MG8, Year 8, Model stz.
Another point: My parts guy observed that most if not all of the the seat cables (even on microfiche) have the same number, most likely a fatory problem.
We even checked all the Update notices and shop manuals.
Any ideas or help?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike:
I can't clear up your cable/part confusion, since a check of a PET says the part number IS 928-521-093-02. Maybe Phil at Suncoast can help you sort through this?
Can you please post more on this problem and your approach and success at a repair? My driver's seat (sport seats, 1998) latch is also not working properly. I am sure there are several people who can benefit from your experiences on this one (if you would be so gracious)
Thanks!

Just an idea to try.
I checked out the listing you had and I also found the same part number listed under page 807-14 under a different description "Bowden Cable".
So then I started to wonder....
I then checked out the Seat catalog parts page for the Boxster/996, MG8 SG16, 816-10 And there is a part number 996 521 385 00 "cable", remark 97. I thought the 97 looked interesting. Don't know if maybe this could be the right part.
Not sure if that would help.
BTW. Chris C. If you decide to order that cable and it ended up being the wrong cable don't blame me for posting the incorrect DIY.....

Thanks!
We are pursuing this with Porsche and will update the list if I find out more. But for now I have the right hand latch "hardwired" (what are clothes hangers for anyways? ) until I get the correct cable. If anyone nkows more please post.
I am also going to Europe this weekend and will be spending a day in Munich. I may have enough time to take the train to Stuggart. If so, I can ask right at the "source"! (BTW, any ideas on how to arrange a factory tour with one weeks notice?).
Cheers,
Mike
