Great buy!

like it's been said above, I wouldn't spend too much time and money trying to fix the system, it is ackward... Inserting your key in and setting the switch to position two, you really should have to press the button only once, if not, I'd go with what was proposed above, contacts and fresh battery.

Now I feel like a dork. That's what I get for simply following instructions from someone with limited 993 knowledge.

Per you guys' advice, I watched the immobilizer light in the clock. It comes on when I switch the ignition, but just to get all the lights on the dash. I then press the button on the key fob without activating the locks and presto! The immobilizer light turns off and the car starts.

Thanks for your input and kind words.

Sounds like you picked up a nice one. Congrats. IIRC, once you unlock the car, you have 90 seconds to start the engine. More than that, you'll have to press the remote button.

If you think you see a twin on the road in the bay area, that'll be me.

Nice car!

Those key fob batteries need frequent replacement and you're screwed if they actually die, so keep an extra handy.

The immobilizer light in the clock, should go off on its own. Light on, as you switch the ignition is a ready state check of the immobilizer system. If there are any system errors, you should receive double blinks of the LED lights mounted on the door tops.

Sounds like you have everything worked out.

Congratulations!

Now I feel like a dork..

Don't feel that way Artsee, it's just the overly complicated way Porsche does things.
It's what you get when trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Lots of little things to learn...read the manual, and search here. Thanks for joining the community here, best $17 you'll ever spend. We're here to help...and to poke fun at, and to suggest how to spend your

Congratulations on your purchase!

And don't feel like a dork, I think we've all been there at one time or another. Chalk it up to learning the many lovable quirks of these cars.

(And nice model/color choice, BTW - you have great taste)
